“This is Arcadia’s Book of Order,” the man explained. “Sacred laws passed down from our ancestors. Repeat after me.”
She nodded faintly.
“I, Seraphina Wilson…”
“I, Seraphina Wilson…” she echoed, voice barely above a whisper.
“…will speak nothing but the truth.”
Word by word, she repeated the oath.
