The shower is hot, almost painfully so, but I welcome it. It washes away dirt, blood, fear—at least on the surface. I lean against the tile, letting the water run over my face, trying not to think about drones and mercenaries and fathers who think kidnapping is parenting.
When I step out, wrapped in a towel, Cole is leaning against the doorframe like he never left.
“Reyes gave me clothes,” he says, holding up a soft T-shirt and sweats. “Not your style, but better than hypothermia.”
