I snatch the wallet from his hand with a sweet smile. I turn to the vendor and beam. “One large cotton candy, please. Put it on his tab.” The vendor glances at Liam, who sighs and nods. “She’s extorting me.” “Damn right I am,” I say, tearing off a fluffy piece of pink sugar and popping it into my mouth. I hum dramatically, savoring it. Perfection. I don’t notice Liam watching me as I walk away from the stall, happily munching on my cotton candy. I plop down on a nearby bench, and he joins me a moment later.

There was a small container full of burger patties, and next to them were cards with poorly drawn versions of me. “What’s this?” I ask grabbing one of the drawings. Helen laughs, “Some of the kids wanted to thank you. They didn’t have enough money to buy you something pink, so they just decided to draw you. They really appreciated the candy you gave them.” I wasn’t an emotional person.

It is a small space with shelf-covered walls. There are glass bowls on the shelves, each one of them containing different colors of sweets. Lemon-shaped yellow candies, caramel-flavored sticks, colorful lollipops, red and white sugar canes...Candace enjoys the view and looks at them with enthusiasm. This is a delightful opportunity to act like a little girl who needs her daddy to take care of her. "Ah, sir! They look incredible."
