A pressurized feeling propels on his back which forces his muscles to tighten. The force alone is something that he can handle but what happens next has a look of a dead man crossing his features. Draven moved through the chaos like a blade through silk. The outer nexus chamber had become a maelstrom of light and violence. Golden Aether from the fracturing core column bled into the air in slow, catastrophic ribbons, casting everything in shifting hues that turned blood black and smoke violet.

My head fell backward on Xander’s chest as I blinked my eyes to get rid of them. I don’t know what Xander was saying or what Dimitri replied with as he stood near his father’s bed. I could barely see their features, let alone hear them. Just as it started, it suddenly stopped. I didn’t hear shouts; I didn’t hear her chants, I only saw his father open his eyes widely and shot forward with a deep inhale. It was then that I let myself let go and gave up to the darkness that looked too welcoming. His eyes shot open and mine shot close.

Within the center of the chamber stood a pedestal, upon which rested an orb, pulsing with a ghostly blue light. Ethan drew nearer to the sphere cautiously, feeling the crude power radiating from it. “This... this is it,” he murmured. “The source of the darkness.” Lena stepped forward, her eyes fixed on the orb. “If we destroy it, we might be able to stop whatever’s chasing us.” “Or we could unleash something even worse,” Ethan replied, his voice tinged with uncertainty. The darkness swirled and coalesced into a monstrous form, a towering figure of shadow and malice with glowing red eyes that locked onto Ethan and Lena.

It floated down into Cole and Lila’s hands, its light merging with their own. “The Eternal Key,” Aether said, his voice filled with awe. “It connects all worlds. It maintains the balance between life and death. It is eternal.” Cole and Lila held the Eternal Key, looking at all the worlds through the golden door. They had saved them all. They had brought peace to all of them. But then, they saw something that made their blood run cold. In the distance, beyond all the worlds, there was darkness. A darkness so deep, so cold, it seemed to absorb the light. And from that darkness, a door was opening—a door made of dark energy, larger than the golden door.

Beside me, Ethan was still asleep, his chest rising and falling in steady rhythms. I smirked faintly, brushing a strand of hair off his forehead. He had no idea what I’d done last night. The ether—an odorless, potent concoction I’d acquired through some very specific means—had kept him in a dreamless slumber. Even now, his face seemed unusually pale, and there was a subtle tick in his jaw. When he finally stirred, his eyes fluttered open, bleary and unfocused. He groaned, bringing a hand to his temple.

Time is luxury when death is at your tail. Serra was behind Rena and was watching their back. Rena knew these woods well and she was right, Serra could smell the familiar scent of danger everywhere. She don't know but after she embraced the power of the Ether inside her, she can now smell death. It's like all the bad smell of the world mixed into a one pungent but weirdly satisfying scent. It's a bad scent but the longer you smelled it, the more you are attracted to it. It's like a drug in all possible ways.

Pulling away from that burning, uncomfortable touch, Eva glanced once more at Bethan, stunned at the fear that still swam in those chocolate pools before Ethan shut the door. --- It took a while for him to become self aware and once he did, he then became aware of the darkness that swallowed him up. There was something comforting and protective in the darkness, like the protective walls of a mother's womb. Nothing existed in that void. Time didn't exist, neither did sound or light. Even memories were unable to break through the bubble of nothingness.
