I watched in helpless silence as a soft glow surrounded her hands, but when she pulled them away, the glow faded, and her face was grim.
“It’s not natural,” she said softly. “There’s something inside him, something dark. I can’t identify it yet, but it’s draining him.”
My heart sank. “What do you mean, something dark? Magic?”
She nodded. “Yes, dark magic. It’s subtle, but it’s been in him for a while. It’s been feeding on his strength.”
“How long does he have?” I asked, my throat tightening.
The healer hesitated before answering. “If we don’t remove it soon... days, maybe a week.”
