It was almost as if it was a time line as we walked down the hall. I saw a sword. Many different people held the sword as we walked. Sometimes it was a person outlined in black light, which was strange to see black light. It was not like the UV purple light that they called black light in the clubs. This was inky dark light. Almost like paint, but reflected as light. My physics brain couldn't wrap itself around the concept, and yet here it was right in front of me.

On the tray was a neatly arranged salad bowl, a small dish of diced fruit and a glass of water. Beside the glass was a folded note. I picked it up and unfolded it. “Enjoy, you bastard. #goodboy.” A chuckle escaped me as I stared at the note. Only Isabella would sign something like that. I sat on the edge of the bed, pinching a bit of the salad and tasting it. Fresh, crisp, with just the right amount of dressing. Satisfied, I nodded to myself, grabbed the tray and took it over to the sofa. Placing the tray on the side table, I opened my laptop, letting it boot up as I took another bite.

He puts his front paws on my thighs as I scratch his ears. "His claws," Death says slipping his hands under my arms and pulling me up I look at my thighs and see his claws pierced through my jeans and into my skin where blood was spilling. My thighs heal within seconds and I look at Death who looks surprised "We have things to do tomorrow, so your friend has to go home soon," he tells me I nod and Mika and I go inside his room. Cerberus lays his head on my lap and Mika and I talk about things.

One of the estate guards poked his head inside. "Sorry," he said, somewhat winded. "There's… something you ought to see." He extended a small box—black velvet wrapping, no return address, no emblem. Only a note tied with a red string. Vandaulf picked it up gingerly. Lily pulled out the note and read aloud: "The past doesn't die just because you kiss in white. I buried your family once. I can bury your peace again. —B." Silence. Then the opening of the velvet box.

"You see now, Master Lewin? I'm not the only one feeling confused here. Even the guests are confused as well." "In that case, let me open your eyes to something new. Give me the Nocturne Orb." Edgar quickly passed the bead to Dunley, who then said, "Turn off all the lights." So, Edgar waved a hand. In an instant, all the lights in the living room were turned off, plunging everything into pitch-black darkness. "Now, feast your eyes on this miracle. Everyone, look at my hand." Dunley raised his right hand. It was dark, so no one could see what he was doing. But they could see a ball of luminescent green light in the dark.

The heavy wooden door opened slowly, revealing a sliver of darkness that widened into the mansion's vast entry hall. My heart hammered against my ribs. Caden stood there, looking impossibly calm. He wore dark pants and a loose white shirt, sleeves rolled up, showing strong forearms. His eyes, dark and sharp, met mine, and a slow, unsettling smile spread across his face. "Right on time, Maeve," he said, his voice a low rumble that filled the huge, echoing space. "Come in. Don't be shy."

She's all grace and beauty, not at all like this wild child. "We were going to have you do a simple job, but you disrespected Mr. Lyon, so don't expect any favors now." He shot a look at Tony, who was chomping on a cigar, and jabbed a needle into my arm. Before I could fully wake up, I was hit by a wave of burning heat. As the drug kicked in and my face turned red-hot, they laughed and left, slamming the door behind them. The room went pitch black. I bit down hard, fighting to keep my wits about me.
