“All of it. Then we talk.” I broke the seal and opened the thick folder. Liora rested warm and content against my hip, her small hand occasionally tugging at my collar as if sensing the tension in the room. Across the table, Annabella’s four-month-old made soft cooing sounds in the carrier, blissfully unaware of the storm contained in these pages. The lantern between us burned low and steady, casting flickering shadows that danced across the handwritten notes, old letters, financial ledgers, and coded reports. It took me twenty minutes to read every word. I absorbed them slowly, the way I had learned to read every document that could change my life. Each page felt heavier than the last.

A frown forms on his brow and he lowers the card again. “Give me a second.” Max tells her before leaving the room. Ally looks at Ruth. The woman is waiting for Ally to ask her to do something and Ally has nothing to ask her. Ally smiles at Ruth and decides it would be less awkward to just follow Max. Max finds Ally again halfway through the apartment. He has a small device in his hand. It is a small cylinder with a little light shining from it. “Look through here,” Max tells Ally, handing her the device. “It will enlarge the writing.”

They heard the room. Then Caelan grasped a pen. "Let's ask them to write the rest." --- 9:34 PM — Citywide Broadcast, Final Segment Radio broadcast voices that were not of scholars, but of firm hands. A fisherwoman reading a clause out loud by candlelight. A student reciting a neighbor's explanation. A child enumerating what made them feel secure. Then silence. Then Elira's voice: "You've been listening to the living document. There is no index. No final paragraph. Only the next hand that picks it up."

I stood and grabbed the documents from my attaché case, raising them. “According to this report, funds are missing! Didn’t you check these properly?!” I use specialized equipment to read the reports sent to me, so even if I’m blind, I still learn what’s written. Freya took the document and read it. “Sir, I have this month’s report. And there’s no missing money. I don’t know what this report is.” My brows furrowed. “What do you mean you have this month’s report? You’re holding it right now!”

Allysyn answered proudly. “After what?” Reyona asked.” “You need to sit down so that I can read it,” Allysyn said as she lifted the beautifully bound document. “Oh, oh, okay,” Reyona said with a smile as she quickly sat down. Her hand fluttered towards her face when she felt some wetness. Maxwell automatically passed his handkerchief to her. Celia gave the floor to Allysyn and the latter opened the document with flair. Reyona could see the artistic arrangement and some images on the inside of the document when the girl opened it.

Alana laughed. Eva smiled and stood from the windowsill and walked to the aisles of books. She picked up the one book with no Braille on the spine and walked back to the windowsill. “Hey Alana, can you read this to me? I really want to know what it says” Eva whispered as she held out the book for Alana to grab.

KAI I re-read the words on the page, double checking it's not some wild fantasy in my head. They’re still there, staring back at me. I skim lower, and fuck, it’s straight up explicit details of one character giving another a hell of a head job, vivid enough to burn into my brain. Ava’s really out here reading p**n.

As gently as possible, I ask, “Are you dyslexic?” “I’m not diagnosed.” I feel his hesitation. “But maybe? It’s okay, either way. There are more tools I can show you that can help. I can help.” I prompt him for a response with raised brows and an encouraging smile. Rob looks down at my hand where it rests on his arm. “I think probably,” he admits. Letting a few seconds tick by, he gathers his courage. “What else can you show me?” Smiling brightly at the opportunity to help him and more so, at the trust he’s given me, I click through a few more settings on his digital text, showing him how to use the text to speech function to have the program read the text to him.

Hazel's POV I gasped and almost immediately, everyone gathered around me. I saw as they squinted their eyes and darted from each page of the book. "Is this some kind of joke?" said Ryder, angrily, stepping away from me. He glared at me with hate and in the corner of my eyes, I saw Kaya move closer to Lorena. "It's no joke Ryder. I can read this stuff. This was why Kaya was able to read it. She still has her wolf eyes. Our regular human eyes can't decipher the writing."
