Ear Whistle When Blowing Nose Novels & Stories

All of them turn their heads toward it. "Shit,shit!" I swear, covering my mouth with my hands and holding my breath. My heart is beating too fast. All of a sudden, now, something awful rises into my nose. I feel the urgent need to sneeze. My muscles tighten as I force myself to hold still. "Relax, hold it in... please. Just a few more minutes," Miles whispers, smoothing my back.

For the first time in my life, I kind of glad for my petite frame that I could fit into this space. The smell of dust wafted into my nostrils, trickling into my nasal passageway and threatening to cause me to sneeze. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, pinching the bridge of my nose tightly. I keep on repeating a silent mantra on my head—please don’t sneeze, please don’t sneeze, please don’t sneeze. That until the trickling sensation of my nose has subsided, letting me sigh in relief.

A sound that shouldn’t exist anymore. I pressed my hands flat against the windowsill, leaning out just enough to let the cold wind slap my face. My brown wavy hair whipped around my cheeks. “Come out if you’re there,” I called softly, trying to sound bold like I always did. “Stop hiding like a coward.” The whistle stopped. Silence swallowed everything except my own heartbeat thundering in my ears. The curtains brushed against my arms, cold and damp from the night air. Then, just as I started to pull back inside, the whistle started again. Fainter. Farther away. But still the same tune. Still Tristan’s.

He continues to blow and my ears ring from it’s loudness. “Excuse me!” I scream at him while blocking my ears , however he does not hear me. He turns still blowing into the instrument and I think he is going to hit into me but instead , as soon as his trumpet comes into contact with my skin he disappears into dust. “Fucking hell!” I curse for like the second time. I limp backwards , my heart in my hand – I am beyond scared right now. I hear in a distance , someone loudly announcing something. I turn around slowly , holding my breath.

Plump, soft, devoid of foreign smells. Then my nose awake next. Like an explosion of new senses my body wanted everything to come at once. I had to take a calming breath before the smells around me caused an overreaction. Then I felt the sheets flutter and recalled my wind and closed my mouth making sure to breathe through my nose. That’s when the smells really started to take hold.

It charged fiercely towards Nike when it saw its familiar silhouette. "RAWWWWWRRRRR" another growl came from the beast but this time, the sound carried some overwhelming power. The sound wave pushes Nike away. This single clash injured Nike already, when the sound wave reached him, his seven orifices started to bled.

My vision became blurry as my face burned. I was panting, letting air out of my mouth, when I remembered Tyler’s words. Breathe through my nose. I closed my eyes and dropped my whole body to the ground, coiling and clutching my stomach as I tried to breathe through my nose. With everything burning in my body, breathing through my nose became impossible unless I tried my hardest. But it did help. The burn on my face was slowly subsiding, but the rest of my body was not.

A few moments later several nurses raced in. “Ok honey, we are going to get this tube out” one said, her voice calm and eyes kind. “I need you to breathe through your nose ok, good, that's it.” I stared at her wide eyed, feeling the oxygen bless my body as I greedily sucked in as much as I could, my nostrils flaring.

I caught a glimpse of Reese with his eyes closed tightly, also looking behind him. I’m not sure what made me do it. However, I reached out and grabbed his hand. Reese took it immediately and squeezed it tightly. I could feel his body shake. There wasn’t any hiding this fear. There was a loud whistle. Not the kind that a human makes from their chest, but the kind you hear at sporting events. It was as if all the footsteps stopped, waited a second, and then turned around. Running back to where they came from. There was heavy breathing slowly getting closer to our faces. My hair prickled, knowing they were close to me. My head felt as if the skull was compressing and expanding at the same time, to breathing also proved to be a challenge because it hurt to drag air into my lungs. My body instinctively curled into a ball as a way of alleviating the pain. Neither the rain nor the cold wind blowing could do anything to ease the wrenching pain. For long agonizing minutes, the snapping went on before everything suddenly went still. I couldn't make out the sound of anything for a few seconds before I heard a loud ringing in my ears which made me groan in discomfort, my body coiling tighter than ever, then the ringing stopped.
