Lurking In The Dark - Book 1

Lurking In The Dark - Book 1

That brings us to the theory of evolution. Although various theories of evolution had already been developed and written by various scholars and writers, it was not until the French natural scientist Jean-Baptiste de Lamarck presented a theory of evolution in 1809 that was based on the adaptation of the environment. Fifty years later, the British biologist Charles Darwin published his famous theory of natural selection, which - over many generations - led to the change of species.

Half Blood Shadow

Half Blood Shadow

And in that moment, the first Hunter was born. In the aftermath of the tearing, Allen Erickson didn't return to the football field. The golden boy of Asheville had been hollowed out, replaced by a vessel of cold, focused insanity. He spent his days in the charred husks of libraries and the hidden basements of occult bookstores, the ancient mage inside him guiding his hands toward manuscripts that would have driven a normal man to madness. He was studying, not for a degree, but for a genocide.

Hunted

Hunted

My body buzzed with tension, every instinct screaming that something wasn’t right. And then, the gunshot. It was too close. I twisted, moving out of the way just in time as the bullet sliced through the air where I’d been standing. A growl ripped from my throat, my body surging forward as I shifted midair. The transformation sharpened everything—the scents, the sounds, the movement in the shadows. My eyes locked onto one of the hunters pressed against a tree, his rifle raised. I didn’t give him the chance to fire again.

she gestured to the left with other bookcases, “is every other species of hunter.” “There are hunters in other species?” Despite her attempts to attract my mate I was intrigued. I never would have guessed that anything other than a wolf would have the ability. “Oh yeah, vampires, witches, demons, angels, the gene is typically stronger with a single bloodline, hybrids came into the mix later but it seemed the hunting abilities were less than satisfactory. Except for the angels, those are quite interesting.” I furrowed my brows. “You have books on angel hybrids with hunting abilities?” It couldn’t be this easy, no way.

Then he continued. “To your family you might be an abomination, but to us? We believe you are an evolutionary blessing from the Moon goddess.” Kimberly hesitated, then asked out of genuine curiosity. “How is having a hunters blood such a big deal? I mean, aren't werewolves supposed to be stronger than them?” He smirked subtly, “ Yes, we are.” He wasn't done. “But the hunter's aren't just trained soldiers with high tech weapons and good battle tactics.”

CARNAL

CARNAL

I said honestly. I could've sworn he rolled his eyes as he pushed himself away from the desk. Cain walked over to one of the many bookshelves that lined his office and picked a book off the top shelf before opening it and flipping through it. After finding the page he'd been looking for, he walked over to me. "Read this," he said, handing me the book. I looked at him warily before sitting down in the chair across from his desk. I began to read the passage he'd pointed to. During the time when Lycanthropes were being hunted for the pelts, they evolved to allow an assurance for future offspring:

Midnight Between Us

Midnight Between Us

Then, the oppressive darkness above shifted, and Ava suddenly understood a terrifying, cosmic truth. The Hunter wasn't chasing the First Human out of a personal vendetta. It was chasing consciousness itself. Every time a civilization reached a certain evolutionary apex, every time a species learned to digitally or telepathically interconnect their minds, every time a race tried to manipulate the architecture of their own souls to escape the reality of death—the Hunter followed the signal. The realization struck her like a bolt of lightning. The ancient, crystal civilization hadn't merely destroyed itself through a faulty network design. Something had found them in their moment of synchroniza

The Hunter Becomes the Hunted

The Hunter Becomes the Hunted

My retaliation was a public humiliation in front of the entire university that Gary could not simply ignore. The game of humiliation he had carefully planned had turned into a public judgment of him and his lackeys. It broke the last of his restraint and made him go mad. He dropped the civility and stopped testing the waters. That night, the app posted an unprecedented "Ultimate Hunting" Quest. The title was crimson red. [Ultimate Hunting Quest. Capture Sinead alive and take her to the abandoned classroom building in the north.]

I said as much to my mate. “No,” he explained. “Hunters are human, but they have certain supernatural abilities. They are born with the instinct to kill everything non-human. They don’t live in the grey. They refuse to accept that there are good and evil supernaturals - they simply kill everything that isn’t pure human.”

Awesome story! The characters are great! I love Kaiya's stubbornness and strong aura. She really does compliment Bowden well. I can't wait for more updates. Especially, with what is going on in the catacombs.... that is definitely a real mystery....

I really enjoyed this book - it’s like unraveling a series of presents - the story telling is amazing, the FL and ML are both strong, intelligent and - a rarity in most of this kind of novels - communicate to each other! No unnecessary drama, no drawing on - congratulations to the author!

The Quintessential Quintuplets' Mate.

The Quintessential Quintuplets' Mate.

While most often that is elk, caribou, deer and moose, it can also be bison, muskoxen, dall sheep or even salmon. It is not uncommon for wolves to be injured or even killed during the hunt by being kicked by a hoof or gored by an antler. Most often the prey they select is in some way weaker and/or more vulnerable than the other animals in the herd. They may be injured, sick, old, very young or genetically inferior. But even healthier animals can at times find themselves in a vulnerable position. Over time this process allows the most capable prey animals to survive and pass on their genes and it helps to limit the spread of diseases within the herd. This is an ancient evolutionary success st
