Randul kept glancing at me, his face tight with unspoken emotions.
When we reached his quarters, he opened the door to reveal a cramped, dimly lit room. Two small beds were pushed against opposite walls, separated by a workbench cluttered with tools and machine parts.
"You work on machines?" I asked, intrigued.
Randul nodded. "I have machine magic. It's why I was accepted here."
Machine magic. My heart skipped. Lydia had been the only person I personally knew with such a gift. It felt like a small, unexpected connection to her.
