The sky-mount is a terrifying, magnificent creature, its leathery wingspan wide enough to shadow the entire ruined courtyard in a flickering, bat-like veil. As it launches itself into the air, the world beneath us falls away, replaced by a dizzying, violent expanse of clouds and moonlight that threatens to swallow us whole. The freezing wind whips my hair into a frenzy, tearing at my eyes, stinging like abrasive salt, and I am forced to wrap my arms tightly around Daryl’s waist to keep from plunging into the jagged, frost-bitten peaks below. Every muscle in my body is screaming, stretched taut by the sheer velocity of our ascent.

I shook my head as another tear escaped my eyes, "This is embarrassing, but I'm seriously freaking out right now, and I need you. Can I please just... I don't know, lay with you until the storm ends?" Jax immediately kicked the door open, and I could see the realization on his face as he remembered my fear of thunder storms. He was quick to place an arm over my shoulders ushering me inside. "Of course, whatever you need."

“My family doesn’t want this engagement anymore.” Sky says. I astonished. How they could do that. Why don’t they understand that Masson is not a murderer. He is a nice guy. He can’t do that. He had his arms over his eyes, lying perfectly straight but Moon and Lexi could see his toe thumb moving, a clear indication that he wasn’t sleeping and he was stressed. Moon put the kids in their play pen, and moved to sit on his chair near the bed, while Lexi slipped in the bed and leaned with the bedhead. Moon raised his eyebrows but didn’t say anything.

The one fear rents space in. “Do you ever feel like we’re tempting fate?” I ask quietly. Both of them go still. I didn’t mean to say it out loud. It just slipped — like fear always does when you’re distracted. Sneaky. Uninvited. Wearing your voice. “Yes,” Mel says instantly. “Constantly,” Sky agrees. My throat tightens. “Because I keep thinking … what if this is just the calm before something worse?” Sky scoots closer, her knee pressing against mine. Solid. Real. “Aria. We survived hell.”

I turned to the sky, awakening from the darkness with light blue, my chest beating furiously with fear. Fuck, fuck, fuck…. Keithen Hook, you’ve screwed up again.
