I didn't give him any time to finish his words and hugged him tightly without any hesitation. "Hey, I just had a fever before, it is just a fever. I'm okay," I said while laughing. "Fever? But yeah, you are right…sleep is necessary,” he said as they both took out their books from the lockers and checked in their classes. “What did you dream of this time?” asked Rook as we proceeded towards our English class. “That I am in a field of wheat and keep walking and then suddenly I am wheat myself and I am happy,” I replied. Rook stopped for a moment and then he said with a sigh,” Ai, I have to tell you that you have a serious gift for summary. What was that? Ten words?”

The air in the High Tower had turned into liquid lead. It started as a dull ache in my marrow, a restless hum that vibrated against the silver scars on my wrists. By sunset, it was a wildfire. Every inch of my skin felt too tight, my blood singing a frantic, high-pitched note that demanded a harmony I couldn’t find. I collapsed onto the furs, my breath coming in shallow hitches. This wasn’t the sickness of the dampeners. This was the Fever.

“I don't want to go through this pain again.” But the fever pulls harder, throwing me deeper into the nightmare. My heart races. My hands shake. I see blood on snow even though I know I’m lying on my bed. I hear the tearing of flesh. The begging. The moon too bright above me. Derek is shouting inside me. “Snap out of it. Kael, open your eyes.” I can’t. Not immediately. It takes everything in me to yank myself out of the nightmare. I force my eyes open, but the room spins and the fever makes everything feel unreal. Sweat covers my forehead. My chest rises and falls too fast, like my lungs forgot how to work.

she mumbled again, her voice now sharp with a sudden surge of fear, edged with a raw, panicked intensity. “Shh,” I murmured, leaning closer and gently brushing my hand across her damp forehead. Her skin was clammy with sweat, the fever clinging to her still. “It’s not real, El. It’s just a dream. He’s not here. You’re safe.” She jolted suddenly, her body arching slightly as if something in the dream had struck her a physical blow. “No!” she cried out, the sound torn from her throat, filled with a primal terror that sent a shiver down my spine.

I was holding it but strangely my hand did not burn.” Carlisle responds. Joshua scoffs while his hands are shoved in his pant pockets. “That’s because it's a damn dream.” “Dreams can feel real,” Dory retorts, “Sometimes they work as signs to guide us.” She adds and Ruth nods. I wonder what the dream means, what it signifies. Is it a premonition, a glimpse into the future? Or is it simply a product of his fevered mind?

I do get hallucinations when I have a fever. El's eyes widened angrily. I just casually touched my forehead as if to say to him that I have a fever. What do I do now? She noticed a thin layer of sweat forming on his forehead, and the temperature of his skin beneath her hand seemed to be rising. "Lucas!" she called out. However, he remained fast asleep, intermittently murmuring, "No... No... Coco... you can't, you absolutely can't..." Coco frowned. What was he dreaming about? What was she doing in his dream to make him say that? But he seemed to be running a fever. The doctor had warned to look out for signs of fever. With that in mind, Coco quickly pressed the nurse call button by the bed and waited for the nurse to arrive.

Lately, I have been having these dreams where I could see myself walking in the middle of a forest I haven’t seen before, with heavy fog surrounding me. And even though the forest was dark and cold, it didn’t scare me because, for some unknown reason, it made me feel like I was walking home. I hear voices around me, but I couldn’t make out the words that they were saying, and yet something inside me understood what they were trying to say. After all the running I spent in the unfamiliar forest, I would feel my body heating up, like I had a fever that was so high, and yet I wasn’t trembling because of it.
