Chapter 117: The Rotten Sluice The Oakhaven river did not flow with the clean, icy rush of the high fjords; it wallowed through its stone channel like a dying beast, thick with the gray silt of the lowland flats and the chemical bile of the mountain runoff.

Ishida proclaimed, sauntering towards the edge of the lake and crouching down on one knee. Ishida cupped some water into his hands and deliberately took a large sip. “S-salty!!” he exclaimed, spitting the water onto the ground. “It’s salty, just as I thought!” “Are you kidding me? This has to be a freshwater lake. Seawater can’t get in here, and you know it. Those walls are more than high enough to prevent a flood,” Rhina laughed. “I don’t know, but it’s salty and that is a fact. Why don’t you try a sip for yourself?” Ishida urged.

Butterflies danced in the air, adding a fleeting grace to the rugged terrain. The island's heart harbored a small freshwater stream, its crystal-clear waters inviting me to quench his thirst. You could see the fish, the slippery rocks, and plant life as clear as day. I sauntered to it and bent down to touch it. The temperature was perfect. I walk around and decide to take my dress off to go for a swim, not caring if I have no undergarments. I stepped into the water. It was pure bliss.
