I pulled my knees tightly to my chest, shivering violently as the icy agony chewed through my joints. The emotional devastation of the sudden crash far outweighed the physical pain tearing through my abdomen. Experiencing the brief, beautiful taste of genuine health made this sudden plunge back into the abyss psychologically unbearable. The profound hope and happiness I had felt just hours ago felt like a cruel, twisted joke designed to break my spirit entirely.
