We walked into the main hall of the castle, and I saw four Centaurs and King Izzoth talking with King Fenris and Queen Nina. Conri and I walked up to them, and I greeted, "Hello, everyone!" I approached King Izzoth and gave him a hug. I approached King Chiron, and he held his arms out for a hug. I stepped in them and gave him a hug. I shook the other Centaurs hands as they told me their names. Trina's mate, Zughar, Thraag, Ezram and Delvor are the Centaurs who will be here to guard me. I asked Chiron to go to the conference room with me for a moment.

Hector, being sore, is a little slower. Hector watches the woods for signs of a rabbit. As soon as he spots one, he has to catch it. He knows there is punishment for failing. Hector watches the ground by the roots of the trees and scans it for five minutes. He notices a small white rabbit eating a leaf, not a care in the world. It is too fast for Hector to catch it. I heard another continuous humming sound but is different than the buzzing sound I heard earlier, it’s as if it’s about a warning or something. For the time being, I can just sympathize with Miracle's torment, however, her life and her safety are out of my league. I was unable to spare her—just like those other bodies I had before, I couldn’t do anything to protract their lives.

For a moment, I felt powerful, like I could take on the world—or at least the doubts that plagued me. Then I heard it. The sound was faint, almost imperceptible, but it stopped me cold. A shuffle, a whisper of movement in the shadows behind me. I spun around, heart pounding, my grip tightening on the staff. “Who’s there?” I called, trying to sound braver than I felt. The room fell silent. I strained to hear anything—breathing, footsteps, anything—but all I got was a suffocating quiet. And then they emerged. Five figures stepped out of the shadows, their eyes glowing with a feral hunger that sent a chill down my spine. Rogues.

“Tell me about it. Please, let me know if that thing can hear his voice from outside.” I walked out the backdoor and headed to the end of the garden on the guesthouse side, so the Collins wouldn’t see me. Only when I reached the trail to the Quabbin I dialed the infamous Haunter. “Finally!” was his greeting, such a charmer. “Why did you hang up on me?” “Sorry, but we started hearing loud thuds from the basement and—” “We?” He cut me off, the rude thing. “Didn’t you say you’re living alone at the Manor?”

Hank offered as he thwarted a vampire’s attempt to pull off his head by biting him in the hand. When the double doors of the castle flew open and a new surge of angry castle supernatural residents poured into the great room with the intent to kill, all conversation stopped. Hank pulled a whistle from around his neck and blew it long and hard. It not only summoned a new surge of zombies to flood the great hall, but it caused the vampires to stop for a brief, stunned moment.

The alarm clock beeped. A brunette stirred lazily on the bed. She tried to find the snooze button all to no avail. She clenched her hand into a fist and knocked the alarm clock away from her bedside table, sending it up in the air and crashing into her room's wall, making a big dent and destroying the alarm clock along with it. Suzanne turned to her other side to resume her sleep. This was Herotapolis, where the heroes lived. In this city there lived real, breathing heroes. At some point I fell asleep at my desk once more. Day 5 I awoke to Elio nudging me. “Are you ready to do some recon?” I smiled and nodded. I hopped in the shower and within an hour we were heading out of the door. We just turned off the street when a huge explosion could be heard coming from behind us, causing the whole ground to shake, I look back seeing barrels of smoke fill the air, fear immediately making its way through me.
