By the time I came down the stairs again, Juliet was gone. I stepped outside, locking the front door behind me. Then, I started my run. I paced myself, kicking off with a light jog. I had my AirPods plugged in, playing a hard rock playlist. It was perfect for blowing off steam. My jog lasted for a full minute before I broke into a run at full speed. The wind rushed past my face, tingling my cheeks. I hardly felt the soles of my feet hitting the pavement. It felt like I was flying. That was how fucking hard I was running.

Elide perked up immediately at that but I quickly pushed her down again, trying not to act like I was in anyway interested in what was happening. “A run.” I repeated like a robot. Then a thought entered my head and I smiled. “A lone run?” Luis scrunched up his nose in reply at that. “Ew, no… why would you want to go for a lone wolf run? You have a pack.”

The question was no longer *whether* I would run. It was *who* I would run toward.

The more I really do want it. So, I push open the door to the barracks and get started on my run without my cousin, going on our usual trail at the speeds at which he usually makes me run.
