I caught the glint of that sharp steel arrow slicing through the air, aimed dead center at Kairos's chest. "No!" My scream tore out of me, but it got drowned out by the sickening thud of the arrow hitting home.

I had to inform the patrols to stay alert. Just when I was about to call Xander, an excruciating pain exploded in my chest, sending me instantly to my knees. I looked down and saw an arrow penetrating my chest, hindering my ability to breathe. The fire in my body was lethal. I was certain that I was about to die. I lay down on the ground, wheezing as tears escaped my eyes. I didn’t want to die. Not this soon. There were so many things I wanted to do, yet the grim reaper was right there, ready to snatch my soul out of my body.

And it was then, in that moment, that surprise overtook me. The hood fell away to reveal… “Sarah?” I gasped in disbelief, realizing she had played us for fools. “You—” I could not get another word out as a sharp piercing pain shot through my heart and blood spurted forth from my mouth. Looking down in confusion, I saw an arrow lodged in my chest.

Then, I slashed his hands rendering them instantly useless. “How— how am I this affected instantly and yet you—?” I stayed where I was, watching him, ignoring his question. He stared straight at the sky, his defeat already pronounced, with the sullen breeze that rode through. I took out Roman’s bow, aiming an arrow to his heart, closing my right eye, focused. As his direction focused on me, I fired the shot, the arrow landing directly on his chest. He gasped slightly, staring at the arrow impaled in his heart that wouldn’t cause him any physical pain, but the proof of his defeat traumatizing him.

Before I could react, one of the rogues holding me had already been pressed to a tree with an arrow that penetrated his heart. “Who's there?”

"The rest of you, come with me." We ran in that direction before our assailants could find another place to hide and as expected, we saw two of them, holding their bows, ready to shoot. I dived to my right, evading the first arrow that was shot at me but before he could draw his bow again, I threw my dagger at him and it went through his shoulder, drawing a yelp from him. That was my cue. I dived at him and tackled him to the ground. Then I quickly drove my right hand into his chest and plucked his heart right out of it.

I turn around to find it to be an arrow. It's tip coated in a black substance. Fuc*! My heart thuds when I felt multiple movements all around me. And my grip on the arrow tightens. I look up to only find the shuffling of leaves and next I know a hundred arrows aim towards me altogether. Dammit! I roll over but I was too late. I felt a searing pain in my chest and back. Hiding behind the tree,I look down to curse. Two arrows were rooted. One in my chest and another in my back.

They were immersed in their thoughts when two arrows suddenly appeared in their way from someplace. The first one was struck by the arrow, but the second one was able to move fast and to the side. The gentleman instantly lost his life as the arrow struck him squarely in the center of the skull. He was devastated and furious to see his buddy and subordinate murdered.He got something out of his pocket right away and was going to push the button when three arrows suddenly appeared in his direction just as the second person was about to move forward. This time, he was unable to dodge the arrows; he took one to the neck, another to the heart, and a third to the stomach.

His voice cracked, and reality was finally dawning on him. I could either choose to run to Zayden and die in his arms or remain standing here and wait till the arrow pierces through me. I choose the first option. I mustered all the strength left in me and sprinted towards Zayden. From the look of things, I would probably make it. Time suddenly slowed. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Sage pull the trigger, a scream erupting from her throat as she aimed at me. I saw it. The thick pointed arrow made from steel headed straight towards my heart.
