I was meant to have died in the accident with them, but for some reason, I survived and whenever I asked grandma about it, she looked so sad, I didn’t push. It was me and grandma against the world, not that our sleepy little town was the world. I had two friends, Anna and Elise, and neither of them could understand why I spent so much time ice skating, but I loved my life in our sleepy little town. Anna and Elise were away on one of their adventurous holidays that I never went along with, which meant I was all on my own in the afternoons.

I looked like a cartoon character after an explosion. “Fantastic ,” I muttered, rubbing my face. “Exactly the vibe for a potential criminal investigation.” I tried to remember if I’d left any bottles of water in the fridge. Maybe I could at least splash my face or wipe myself down like a war-time soldier. I shuffled out into the kitchenette and rummaged through the small fridge. Success. One half-empty bottle of water wedged behind a jar of expired pickles. It was lukewarm and probably older than it should be, but it would do.

And maybe worse— Since I realized I’d burn my entire future down before I let anyone hurt her again. Dangerous thought. Very dangerous thought. “Scouts from Chicago are here,” Cole says casually while taping his stick. “And New York.” Marco whistles. “No pressure, Captain.” Pressure doesn’t bother me. Never has. Pressure is easy. Pressure makes sense. People? People are complicated. And Harper? She’s become the most complicated thing in my life. I grab my helmet and head for the ice. So far, you have met or 'heard of' (ahem) the major leads, and now book two will be centred on: Daisy, Erden, Kassian, Bryant, the demon, a bit of travelling to different continents with Isaac and more of fierce Vivanna, lol, unfortunately, the bumbling and uncertain Vivanna dies in book one and comes back far more villainous in book two.
