Jackson deftly carries the over-sized box to the kitchen counter, then uses a box-knife from his work slacks to open it. I shake my head at the fact I had to slide the box from the porch to the living room as it was too large for me to maneuver.

He hurried to it and pulled it open just far enough to see who was on the other side. Lila’s whisper was hard and urgent as she said, “Let us in.” He immediately obeyed by opening the door just far enough to allow her to slip in. Benjamin’s larger frame forced him to pull it just a bit further open before slamming it shut immediately after he’d entered the room. “This is Ben,” she offered as she moved to the center of the room. I stared at the living room, taking a deep breath as I looked around for what felt like the last time. I'm going to miss this house. This is one place that truly felt like home.
