I shake my head as I unbox a set of gold glitter plastic ornaments. "What? Why not?" Georgia stops wrapping the present for my niece, Catalina. Otherwise known as Dean's daughter.

Jade beamed up at him, touched by how thoughtful he'd been. "Come," he reached out a hand. "It's time to open presents." He was more excited than a child. Jade took a seat on the couch, patting the cushion next to her. "Here, Cassandra, sit down. All of you, it's Christmas. Take a load off and enjoy yourselves. It seems Ebenezer Scrooge had a visit from the ghost of Christmas Future." There were chuckles all around. "Okay, Santa, whose present is first?"

They weren't quite this elaborate with their holidays where he was from. Jaida began glancing around once Arius quit asking questions. She always enjoyed Christmas. It had been a while since she had spent one with her father, and she had forgotten how fun it was. They would have a huge tree to decorate and plenty to eat. She loved spending Christmas with her mother too, but there was just something about this small city that made her feel more comfortable. This place wasn't quite as dangerous, although it still had its problems with gangs and street shootings. However, right now, everyone seemed to be in good spirits thanks to the holiday season. Jake, tell Cassie about that big project you're on." She piled more mashed potatoes onto my plate, the scent of roasted turkey and cinnamon filling the room. The house was decked out, garlands draping the mantel, a massive tree glowing in the corner with ornaments from our childhoods. Jake took a swig of eggnog, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed. "It's nothing special. Just building condos downtown. Pays the bills." His gaze flicked back to me, dark and probing.

We were the total opposite. “I and Jax will be spending the holidays there,” I added and her smile vanished as quickly as it had appeared.

Snow Brook Valley Snowbrook Valley was alive in the way only small towns knew how to be during Christmas. Not loud, not overwhelming just familiar. Everyone saying Merry Christmas, children running around, throwing snowballs at each other and making snowmen. Every coffee shop in town was overcrowded, and the fish market was packed. The town had a special meal they made with fresh fish and spicy soup. Brandon was exhausted and needed to rest and today was the town's Christmas nativity night. He would be attending because he just wanted to stay far away from Claudia. Their fights were becoming too much and it was exhausting.

Ana grins, “It is better than something hokey like a baby girl or sweetcheeks. Why luck though?” “Because I figured this Christmas was going to be boring like all the others. A fresh layer of snow is starting to fall. It does resemble a winter wonderland, and for once, I am happy to be on Earth.
