“It’s… 1438 AE, Your Majesty.” My stomach dropped. No. No. No. “What kingdom is this?” I asked, though I already knew the answer. “Earldom, my Queen.” My voice cracked. “Who rules this kingdom?” “King Alaric,” she said softly. I froze. The Raven King. The man I’d just insulted in class that morning. The tyrant who burned the world over a betrayal. “Shit,” I whispered under my breath. “This has to be a joke.”

Old runes lined the walls, glowing faintly with forgotten magic. At the center stood a tall arch of marble fused with crystal. A portal frame. Kaelan sucked in a breath. “The hidden gateway. I had only heard stories.” The spark hovered above the runes, pulsing urgently. Marek turned to Kaelan. “Open it.” Kaelan eased the king to the ground, propping him against the wall. The king wheezed softly, still alive but fading. Kaelan placed both hands on the runes. “It has been sealed for centuries. I do not know if it will open.”

Rune greeted. Rune was a lost lycan turned friend who had lost his family to those filthy monster, houndras. Terrifying monsters that had troubled the mundane and the lycan realm for years. “What do you want?” He asked. Rune knew Kai all too well. “I am sorry to disturb you , but I brought the annual report just as you requested.” Rune said bowing slightly,handing the tablet with the yearly report to Kai. “Hundred years!” Kai thundered as he flung the tablet against the wall.

After taking them out of the shelf, they revealed themselves: three stones with symbols carved in blue light were in my hand. “Runes!” Knight barked in. I have never seen runes before, the few witches that neighbored our pack didn’t have any in their shop. Maybe they were rare, but despite that, I could recognize the magical stones in my hands as runes and I felt their power radiating through me. “Henry, are you sure this is the right move? Stealing like that?” Knight barked in my head, as he paced back and forth nervously, restlessly, like a wolf with fleas.

“I will stop messing with your Luna. But you need to keep in mind that even if you have Etizia, I will remain your Luna. You got it?” Timothy didn’t reply. He only lowered his head until we heard the knock on the door. “Come in,” I allowed. My Beta came and reported, “Alpha, the Alpha King returned, and he asked everyone to gather.” Timothy and I looked at each other before we headed out.
