****Lana's POV**** I stood there in the middle of it all, as the world spinned around me in circles. Mr Lance's short fingers pointing at me accusingly in the boardroom while he clutched his bandaged head with one hand. "This girl, she's a psycho, she broke my head with a vase and even slapped me!" I smirked, wishing I could have done more. Mr Lance caught the smirk and ran wild. "You see. You see that smirk? She did this on purpose, she's crazy!"

Lana I rolled myself under the sheets and pulled them up to my chin even though I wasn’t feeling cold. I felt warm, my limbs heavy and my mind entirely dazed but so very much awake. My thoughts filtered in and out from my purview and I groaned internally. You, Lana, just had sex with the Wolf King. And it was good. Like… really good. I pressed my face into the pillow for a second, feeling half mortified at myself for smiling like an idiot.

Never had Luana wished she was a real werewolf as much as she did at this moment. She tried to call out in her mind, but she knew, having never shifted, that no response would come, especially not with her terminal illness. It was even less likely for her to find her wolf. Still, she fantasized that if her wolf did appear, she would tear the person in front of her to pieces in an instant. But all she could do was watch as he entered and closed the door. Luana no longer had a chance to escape, and her expression grew even darker. "What do you really want, Mr. Elan?"

I fully knew better but Lana had called crying about her latest fling fizzling out. “Lemme guess another hot alpha son you have to woo” Lana said shaking her head as she rolled her eyes and popped her gum. “Ya, got me Lana” I said lying but not wanting to explain hiding out in my room with the curtains drawn, lights off and recovering from yet another possible concussion. Lana became more and more agitated as she spoke. She acted as if she had already understood everything. "I'm telling you, Cruz. Forget about tricking me today! Unless..." She paused, her gaze turning sinister. "Unless you hand over the deed right now and write my name on it! Otherwise, don't expect me to let you in, no matter who comes today!" Lana looked as if she had me under her control and that I had become her possession. This madwoman almost made me laugh exasperatedly. I wondered, 'What era does she think this is? Does she think she's a queen who can do whatever she wants? And the deed? Why doesn't she just fly to the moon while she's at it?'

“But do you have the right to lie to his face? You know it was never about the contract.” “Of course, I know it was never about the contract, but he needed to hear that lie. He needs to move on so I can be free.” “And now? Are you free?” “Yes,” I answered quickly, too quickly. “But at what cost? Are you truly happy?” “If my happiness can buy my freedom then I'd rather be the saddest she-wolf running a billion dollar company.” “And what if he could give you both, freedom and happiness?” My thoughts flitted back to Lyra and those Elders. How obsessed they were about the Luna title.

But then- A familiar scent reached me. Warm honey. Lavender. Clean linen. Orion had passed this way moments before. The scent lingered like a hand on my back, steadying me, guiding me toward my room. And though the corridor felt long and my body wanted to fold- I followed it. Because somewhere down that hallway, the Luna had walked. And I could still feel her gaze on me. Seeing me. Knowing me. Worrying for me. I wasn’t walking alone. Not really.

I couldn't force a coherent sentence out of my mouth. Lana stepped away from the desk and leaned close to me, whispering right into my ear, "You're shocked that I'm not a petite blonde, right?
