“Time’s running out!” William grabbed Lily’s hand, steadying her as they started along the ledge. The trail was barely wider than their boots, but there was no other choice. The night wind tore at their faces, carrying the distant rumble of Leonard’s forces regrouping. Halfway along, Lily glanced back one last time. Through the grate, she could see flashlights bobbing in the tunnel, hear the fury of men who would not stop. And somewhere among them—maybe further back, maybe right there—Leonard himself, still believing his daughter waited for him.

Both young men moved with single-minded purpose, their wolves driving them forward, desperate to find their missing mate. The trail led them toward the dense forest that bordered the pack lands—to the scared grove that in the future they would complete the Moon Rose ritual on the night of Lilly’s 18th over three years away from now, she sat where the cross legged and with her eyes closed. As they approached the grove, the marks on Kenny and Axel's fingers pulsed brighter, the pain transforming into a warm, insistent glow. The forest seemed to part before them, sunlight filtering through the canopy to illuminate a small clearing ahead. And there, in the center, sat Lilly.
