Literally Dead Book Club Novels & Stories

“You’ll have to read them to me.” I sighed, realizing I couldn’t get him off my lap. I could shove him, but he’s probably prepared for that and would deadweight or pop right back into my lap. It’d be an endless loop. So, I had to give up and endure. “My dad knows what I read. Uncle Alex started Bound To Please, a book club many of us in the ranked families across multiple packs are part of. We all enjoy reading paranormal romance because it’s an interesting escape to see how these humans have tried to describe our reality.” I explained.

My heart skipped. I moved closer, scanning the titles until one name leapt out at me like a struck nerve. Dead Viles… The moment I read it, my stomach twisted to nausea. I pulled the text free and opened it, my fingers trembling despite myself. Unlike Lunareeth, this book was filled with dense writing, diagrams etched in faded ink, and warning seals pressed into the margins. Dead Viles. A deadly, ancient poison. I started reading about it, and the more I read, the more my heart shuddered with a cold chill…

Inside there are black candles, several scrolls, and a thick pitch-black book. Of course, it is the book that gets my attention. I took it and inspected it if there are dents, torn pages, or mites. Fortunately, although the book looks old, it also looks new, feels new, and smells new. It has gold writings on it, Death of God. "Death of God?! How did this get to here? I am sure if Mama saw you, she's gonna burn you," I said laughing at my own jokes. See, I am not just unlucky, I am also corny and crazy.

Each cough sent waves of pain through my frame, though none of it hurt as much as the pain in my chest did. Just as I was losing consciousness, I saw paramedics rushing in to rescue people. When I woke up again, I was lying in a hospital bed. The room was eerily quiet. Every now and then, I could hear nurses whispering in the hallway outside. "I heard that famous lawyer, Ms. Hudson, is in the room next door. She's keeping her first love company. I never thought someone who looks so cold on TV could be so gentle with her boyfriend!" "Yes, they make such a great couple!"

Something that could wipe humanity off the map. “The ones who survive… are becoming… something else,” I murmured under my breath, barely able to believe it. “Zombies,” I whispered. The word hung in the air. Rebecca shuddered. “I can’t believe it. It’s happening so fast. What do we do?” “We study it,” I said firmly, more to myself than to her. “I need to get to the bottom of this. We need samples, data, whatever we can get our hands on.”

"You are the 'Rot' in the library. You must be 'Excised' so that the Great Record can remain pure." Audrey stood on the bridge of her half-faded ship, her eyes burning with a silver-and-gold fire. "The library is 'Dead', Librarian. A book that is never read is just a stack of paper. A world that never changes is just a tomb. We didn't come to excise you. We came to 'Open-the-Windows'."

Jojo nudged Bill's motionless body with her foot, nodding in satisfaction. A chorus of gasps and whispers erupted from the book club members. "Oh God, is he dead?" someone exclaimed. Brandon's panicked voice rose above the din. "I don't know how to hide a dead body! I don't want to hide a dead body! I've never hidden a dead body in my life!" Kaitlyn's sharp tone cut through the chaos. "Nobody's going to hide a dead body. He's probably fainted. We need to call an ambulance, now."

Taking out the plain purple journal, I open it to the bookmarked page and glace at her name engraved on the stone once more before parting my lips to begin reading; Dear Sister Esther, Hi! Today makes it ten years since I heard you laugh, talk, or argue with dad. I have not been the same without you. You know the movie walking dead? I know you do. We watched season one together. While the movie focused on the zombies after either being beaten or taken by death, I died the moment I stepped into the pool of your blood. I have become a walking dead too. When they see me, they think I am alive, but I am dead.

I was relieved to see there were no men here, at least if there was going to be a man he should be gay and we all agreed to that. We were six. Cindy Bellman, Aisha Mohammed, Drew Finch, Jessica Boston, Lexi Hale, and me. We were just six beautiful ladies who loved to talk about our favorite books and rant about how JK Rowling is a bitch for her transphobic tweets. Sometimes we'd just go out to have some fun. We weren't just a book club we were a sisterhood. Lexi's mystery thriller novel will be out next month and I'm so happy for her, there's no room for jealousy or spite because as women who moan over hot fictional characters like Christian Grey we can not bash each other all we have is lov

And pulled out a paperback like she was presenting a newborn. The cover showed a shirtless man with a wolf in the background. I stared at it with the kind of horror reserved for secondhand embarrassment. Bailey slapped it on the counter. “For book club.” I read the title and nearly choked on my tea. ALPHA MOON: CLAIMED BY DESTINY. “Bailey,” I said, voice strangled, “I can not read this.” Bailey’s grin turned feral. “You absolutely can. And you absolutely will.”
