“Jensen… sorry…” Her eyes were red as she raised her hand and slapped herself. “I am sorry… I regretted it for the past three years… please forgive me. Please look at me one more time…” I rolled down the window halfway and looked at her with a cold expression. “Chelsea, do you think it is appropriate to say this in front of my wife? Do not come near me and disgust me again. I do not want to see you. Do not insult the word regret. You do not deserve it.”

But I force myself to stand my ground; we will just have to suffer through the tension together. ​"Ignore me. I…ignore what I just said," I scramble, determined to fix my ultimate fuck-up before I lose a friendship I need more than words can say. "I was being stupid and said that without thinking. Just forget it, please." ​Lucian continues to stare at me, his blue eyes appearing wider than usual. As if sensing my mounting panic, he gently extends his open palm toward me. I glance down, a heavy hesitation paralyzing my movements as my mind reels with indecision. The urge to turn and run is incredibly loud, but the desire to stay and take his hand is entirely overbearing.

“How do you manage to bring out the childishness in Lucian?” I stopped pacing and sat down opposite her, crossing my arms. “You call it childish, I call it wickedness.” She raised an eyebrow, clearly not agreeing with me. “I don’t see it that way. Lucian punishes people through death, not by abandoning them in a different state just because he’s upset.” I sighed heavily, rubbing my temples as the anger started to ease, only slightly. “I need your help.” Her expression softened, sensing my anger. “With what?”

He quickly cleared away loose stones while I spread my cloak across the driest patch of ground. Lucian lowered himself carefully, every movement stiff with pain. He leaned against the stone wall and closed his eyes for a moment. His breathing sounded uneven. When he opened them again, they found mine. There were so many things inside that single look. Regret. Relief. Love. And another apology he couldn’t seem to stop giving me. I sat beside him without speaking. He didn’t ask me to leave. He simply looked away. The silence between us felt heavier than the mountain above our heads.

“If I can’t have her… I’ll burn everything she chose. Starting with you.” The words fell like a curse. No divine weight sealed them. But men like Lucian didn’t need gods to make their worst intentions real. He turned on his heel and stumbled down the Temple steps, his remaining soldiers scrambling to follow. Some glanced back at Kael, eyes flicking with something uncertain—fear, respect, and calculation. Lucian didn’t look back at all. He moved like a man held together by stubbornness and spite alone. A broken star fell toward whatever fate waited below the mountain’s shadow.

I could tell he regretted his words too because of the way he went awfully quiet. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that.”

I don’t understand, I—" the words trailed off like a dying whisper. ‎Lucian stood abruptly, raking his fingers through his hair in sheer frustration. ‎"Fuck," he muttered under his breath. ‎My breathing grew ragged, uneven. I tried to steady it, but I couldn’t.

He might be drunk only to utter these words but I was sure when he's sobber he'll abolish them and return to his awful self. "You're right" I uttered with a roll of my eye. "You shouldn't concern yourself with me Mr Lucian. Oh I know. You still haven't gotten what you wanted. The sex right?" I said clearly aggravated. "Stop it Clarissa. I don't want that from you. Believe me when I say I truly regret my actions. Believe me when I say I want you in my life" "Just stop it Lucian" I shouted and turned, my back to him now.
