The cabin was cluttered. Books, candles, strange jars filled with glowing liquids. A fire crackled in the hearth.
"Sit," Elara said, gesturing to a worn couch.
We sat. She sat across from us, studying me.
"The Mute Omega," she said. "You're smaller than I imagined."
"I get that a lot."
She laughed—a warm, raspy sound. "I like you."
"Can you help me?"
She tilted her head. "I can try. But I need to see what you're capable of first."
