Pru grinned. One by one, they pressed their palms to the parchment. The paper hummed under their touch, absorbing their magic like ink. Freda went first, carving her name in elegant, looping script. Pru followed, her letters sharp and angular. Rita hesitated, then wrote hers with a flourish, the parchment warming beneath her fingers. Freda picked up the dagger. "Blood seals the bond. No going back after this." "No going back," Pru agreed. Rita held out her hand. "Do it."

She looked at me with her captivating eyes. "Your turn, Alpha," she said. My inner wolf growled in pleasure at her words. I made my way over to where she was sitting and sat down in front of her. The only major wound I had endured during the battle was a single scratch across my cheek. She lifted her warm hand and placed it over the cut. "Lux remedium," she whispered softly. A warm tingle replaced the burn on my cheek. Her eyes never left mine as I felt the healing magic penetrate my skin, soothing it. We stayed there for long moments after the tingling magic had faded away looking into each other's eyes.

Her voice echoed through the hall, too loud in the quiet. Cameron leaned against a pillar, arms folded. “You said that about the last three.” She shot him a look sharp enough to cut. “Because I was refining them. Magic isn’t instant gratification.” Caleb crouched near the outer ring, fingers hovering just above a sigil. “These runes look old,” he said carefully. “Are you sure this will work.” “This has to,” Lily replied. “Whatever took Lyra and Scott was an advanced portal magic. Even I don’t fully understand it”

“Food.” Lyra looks confused, the Magi even more so. I try again, shifting the colors of my words. This time the Magi nods, reaching forward to grasp my arm. “I am taking her, Grand Lady.” “Not until…” “AhRAAAH…” the Magi’s voice rings like a bell, bright white in my mind like staring into the sun. The word wasn’t shouted, shows no visible energy other than the color in my minds eye, but it has the power to push Lyra back, holding her in place, her body still, her eyes darting angrily between us.

The room was very quiet except for the low sound of the fire in the grate and the distant sound of wind against the shuttered windows. “Can you remove it,” Kael said. “I can try to slow its spread. With a final, resonant word, she felt the spell coalesce. She opened her eyes, a triumphant smile curving her lips. Hovering before her was a perfect sphere of pure magical energy, no larger than a marble but pulsing with incredible power. It cast a soft, ethereal glow across her workshop. "It worked," she breathed, awe colouring her voice. "Caspian, do you see this?" His reply came low and reverent. "It's... beautiful." Lily carefully reached for the vial of moon water she'd prepared. The glass was cool against her fingertips, a stark contrast to the heat radiating from the magical orb. With practiced precision, she guided the sphere into the vial.
