I could’ve stayed there all day, tangled and twisted with him. Out of nowhere a loud thunking sound and then a crack drew us apart from one another, sent my already racing heart into overdrive for a different reason altogether. Both of us stared in astounded shock as a large black bird slid slowly down the windshield, leaving a smear of crimson blood along the crack in the glass. “Is that… a crow?” I gasped, unable to believe my eyes. “No,” Ben said, his voice much more steady than mine. “It’s a raven.”

Steadily, she began to mutter slow words from her mouth and the blood began to evaporate from the floor. It moved up in the air and started swirling in circles and taking a shape, after a while of binding a bird was formed out of Ashina's blood. It had pitch-black eyes and was also black. Not only that, but it flew over to its master and rested calmly on her shoulders. Laura smirked after this before parting her lips to give her orders. “Go spy on Alverset kingdom” she ordered, and the bird flew out through the window.

She promises herself she’ll be at Brew Bear again after All Hallows’. In her elated state, she doesn’t notice three men peel themselves off a wall where they’ve been smoking, to then casually walk after her. Even more imperceptible are the humongous black shapes in the night sky above. Together they make up the shape of a titanic, stern countenance covering half the heavens but, once broken apart, they reveal themselves to be restless, spiky-shaped blackbirds. The sole thought that fills Rina’s mind is the time on her Cartier: Ten minutes to four. Amid deafening wing beats, the Raven-like creatures give off a ravenous, insectile hum.

He heard his father resorted with frustration in his voice. “Dear, you shouldn’t be here. Go back to your room.” His mother hurriedly whispered when she noticed him listening to their conversation. “Wait, did you just say men in black?” Hyde resorted when he came back to his senses. His companion didn’t speak but answered him with a mere nod. “Oh, and one more thing, she also said that one of them has some kind of black bird tattoo on the neck.” Hyde was stunned when he heard about the tattoo. He’s certain, that the deceased man was one of them—or just a scapegoat.

The black ball fused with the tip of the arrow, which swiftly shot toward the small bird. “Ho? Lightning Breath!” The small bird immediately flew away and used its lightning power to merge its own lightning attack with Long Chen’s arrow. "Damn it!" The white-haired man, who looked anxious about Long Chen’s arrow, was immediately sent flying by the little rat with a flap of its wings. BOOOOOMMM…

I was prepared for the worst, but no part of me was anticipating being flung backward by an unknown force, landing hard on the ground next to Damian. My adrenaline was running too high to feel anything other than shock and confusion as Damian hurried to help me to my feet and pull me towards the safety of the porch as a large, human-sized raven-esque bird took flight. I turned to look at Mia's equally confused and shocked expression before I turned back towards the burned circle on the ground .... and then watched the black bird start to fly away with the storm. It couldn't be, could it? "Impundulu ...." Jay's whisper broke the silence.

It took me a second to get used to the darkness, but soon, I was able to make out their outline. Ravens! Occupying every inch of darkness, the black birds sat there. Leaning forward in anticipation... Waiting! “Bon appétit!” the shadow grinned--- and the forest became alive with hundreds--- no, thousands of them! Spilling out of the treeline like a living storm, they tore the skies open as they emerged from the shadows. Their wings beat the air into a frenzy, the sound deafening as they swirled above. They descended like a black wave, their wails so loud it shook the forest with their force. The two men screamed, their shots firing wildly into the dark as talons and beaks ripped at them.

I’ll even help you deal with any of them. “And how would I know you won’t back stab me?” “The same way I know you won’t. It’s not your reputation. Look up Black Dogs. You know of them?” “Order of mercenaries.” “Bingo,” the man said. “Asked them about Vanargand.” “I see.” “You heard of the name?” “It’s another name for Fenrir, monster-wolf of Norse mythology.” “I thought using Fenrir could be copyright infringement, or just piss the guy off.” “That would be unwise.”

Still looking at the bird, she slid her fingers over the animal books which she had gotten acquainted with yesterday, until she found the one she wanted. It slipped off the shelf into her waiting hand, the pages already turning to the very entry her mind was seeking. Strangely, the bird was observing her just as intently, an intelligence in its gaze as it watched the pages of the book open without her hand. She brought the book in front of her and glanced down to look at the photograph of the harpy eagle. The eyes were round and shining with intelligence, but they were not black. The eyes in the picture were a bright amber with a black pupil. She let out her breath slowly. Something was wron
