He also knew that they had wronged her in the past, and he felt ashamed that they were the same people who were now ready to allow her work. They had become so desperate. Frustration rising fast. “This is not working.” “It is working,” Mira said, forcing steadiness. “We are just seeing the truth faster than expected.” “And the truth is?” Mira met his gaze. “You do not trust it.” Silence. I shifted in my chair, trying to ease the persistent ache in my wounded shoulder. "We couldn't just get rid of Trinity like that, Mira. These things require finesse, strategy. Besides," I added in a calm tone, "this way, I now have her trust. I'll be able to have more influence over her decisions, guide her actions, and eventually drive her out of your sons' lives myself." "She would be out of their lives if you had just let her die today!" Mira snapped, her composure cracking further. "Instead, you played the hero, got yourself injured, and now she probably thinks you're some kind of noble savior!"

She raised a hand—and three of her mirror copies lunged forward. Carl intercepted one, blade humming. Ophelia ducked the second, slamming her palm against its head and activating her memory disruptor. Tobias scrambled for cover, launching a neuro-blast that flickered through the air like lightning. But Mira didn’t move. She just watched. And smiled. “You’re not ready for what’s coming,” she said. “None of you are.” Then her body turned to light—and vanished. The remaining mirror copies fell to the ground like broken puppets.
