Turn of the Tide “Mommy…” A small, frightened, and sobbing Angel's voice woke Minah up from her sleep the next day. When she opened her eyes and gazed at the bed, Tobias was no longer there. All she could see was Angel, rocking her head side to side. The kid choked a sob and her hands were up in the air, seemingly reaching for something or perhaps, someone. She must be dreaming. “Mommy…” she called once again, murmuring. “It hurts…”

I open my tightly shut eyes to be met with the all too familiar grey ones. "Got ya, love. Again." He says and pulls me up. Angel comes to me and hold my jeans, yelling, "I caught you! I caught you!" I tap her head making her look up. "Sure you did, love." A lady comes, holds angels hand, "I am her mum. Thank you for playing with her. We will be leaving. " Before she could go, Angel asked, "Is he your friend? Hi. I'm Angel. Bye Cali." She says all so fast and runs away with her mum chasing after her. Kids are weird.

How had we not thought about that yet? We finished dinner and helped Mom clean up before we took our leave. Aunt Ziyah had linked us that she had made progress on the identity of Angel’s mother, and Angel asked if we could go over tonight and see what was found. She was already waiting outside her house, sitting down on the steps. Her elbows resting on her knees. In her hands was the little angel plushie that Mom had given to her shortly after she was saved. It was to represent her mother who was watching over her. That plushie was one of Angel’s prize possessions and meant everything to her.

While he spoke, his gaze remained fixed on Mommy, his eyes shimmering with emotions beyond my comprehension. "Oh," I murmured softly, unsure of what else to say. I heard both of them chuckle as I lowered my gaze. Mommy's laughter was gentle, and I felt a hand on my arm. I glanced up to see Mommy pulling me towards her. Standing in front of her, she ran her fingers through my hair. "And one day, you will find your angel," she whispered. Confusion knitted my eyebrows together, and I quickly shook my head. "But you are my angel, Mommy."

For a drama queen that she is, Angel's spectacles would never come to an end. "Mommy, daddy.." She looks up at Ace and Scarlet, pulling them with her little hands and reaching into her bedroom. "I got you a Christmas gift too." She tells them in a sing-song way. She pulls a drawing from her cupboard which had a man, and a woman, and in between was a little girl and a boy holding their hands. Ace kneels beside Angel and asks, pointing to the little girl in the drawing. "Who is this beautiful little girl? Is she my princess?"

She watched as the girl shrugged to get down from her father to rush towards her. Bethel was wordless. She didn't expect Angel to call her Mom in front of Annie family and even Harry's father was there, Annie seethed in anger. Nevertheless she smiled at the little girl and squatted to her height.. "Angel, you can't call me momma here" Bethel whispered. "Momma" Angel called again, grinning from ear to ear. Mrs Crown cleared her throat. "This is Bethel, Angel's nanny" Mrs Crown spoke and Ellie, made a "ohh I see look".

"Mommy, don't go again. Do not leave me." Angel cried while kissing Harriet's forehead many times. Oh God, she misses her daughter so much. Three months ago Angel was in a coma, and she was conscious before she attempted suicide. The day she attempted suicide, Sean happened to take Harriet to the hospital. Harriet almost saw her dying, and Angel couldn't forgive herself for that. "I'm sorry, princess." Harriet's little hands tried to hug Angel as hard as she could, she was afraid her mother would leave again. "I miss mommy. I miss mommy's breakfast. I also miss being read to by Mommy about the story of the Three Pigs."

Frustration boiled over, and I kicked the door repeatedly, but it didn’t budge. “Fuck this,” I growled under my breath and aimed my gun at the lock. One shot. Nothing. Two shots. Still nothing. “Come on!” I shouted and fired once more. The lock shattered, and I kicked the door. It splintered, flying open with a loud crack. Demon rushed in, his barks echoing off the walls. I followed, my eyes taking in the scene. Lorenzo and my mother lay unconscious, their bodies limp against the wall. But where was my angel?

I shouldn’t… should I? I groaned inwardly, caught in the battle of decision making. Just then, I heard small footsteps then my door was pushed open with a force that amused me. “Mommy?” Angel stood in the doorway, dressed in her unicorn pajamas, her hair tucked neatly under a pink bonnet. “Good morning, baby,” I said softly. “How was your night?” She rubbed her eyes with tiny fists and looked up at me with solemn seriousness. “I’m hungry.” I smiled despite myself.
