I heard her phone, the sound of her dialing, then a pause, then dialing again.
“Charles, pick up,” she said, her voice cracking. “Pick up, please.”
No answer. She tried again and again.
Still nothing.
The fight kept going. Damian caught me across the cheek, and I felt the skin split open. I got him back just as hard, blood smearing across both our knuckles. Neither of us was holding back anymore, years of resentment finally finding somewhere to go.
Then Lily was between us.
She threw herself in the space separating our bodies, her hands pressed against both our chests, pushing us apart with a strength I didn't expect from her.
