Novel & Cerita Never Saw Me Coming

I nod confidently. At this moment, I promise myself that I will never return to this place ever again and never look back at those people who stooped so low and hurt me.

Oblivious to my surroundings, I failed to notice the approaching collision course I was on. Suddenly, in the split second before impact, my peripheral vision detected a blur of movement. I instinctively halted, but it was too late. I collided with an unseen obstacle, stumbling backward and dropping my phone in the process. It clattered against the tiled floor, the music abruptly cut off.

"What's going on in that head of yours? It's my big day. You don't get to skip out on the toast." I jolted back to reality, forcing a perfunctory smile as I prepared to lift my glass. Just then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw the grand doors of the ballroom swing open. A slender, graceful figure stepped into the light. The darkness that had clouded my eyes for two days vanished instantly. But in the next second, the smile froze on my face. Jocelyn walked in, her arm linked affectionately with another man's. Without even setting down my glass, I carved a path through the crowd directly toward her. "Jocelyn. Who the hell is he?"

I couldn't put a finger on what was coming, but something was surely coming for me. ‘Probably Michael’s stupid ass, and his goons’

"You're here alone, drinking." I blinked, momentarily caught off guard by his accuracy. His eyes were steady and sharp, not just looking at me, but seeing through me. He didn't guess; he knew. I shifted slightly, feeling seen in a way I wasn't used to. "And if I am not?" I countered, leaning in just enough to let the air between us crackle.

A crowd of werewolves had surrounded the scene. I could barely see anything, only the crushed top of a Maybach, its silver frame twisted like torn flesh. My heart pounded. Panic surged through me as I squeezed through the gaps in the crowd, my soul nearly unraveling in desperation. Where is he? Where's Shawn? But I couldn't see him. Not even a glimpse. My mind was spiraling into chaos. Then— "Shawn, your wolf is hurt. I'm taking you to the infirmary." A voice cut through the noise.

He just glared at me. “You’re coming with us.” He says. Before I can register what he said, a sharp pain pierce through my neck and all I see is black.

He turned to me sharply after hearing my gasp and I gasped even louder. "Are you okay, miss?" I could see the glasses he wore and even though it felt like I was seeing through a black veil. It was something that had never happened to me before. I had never seen an outline, not to talk of features on a face. I was… I was seeing.

Nothing but that raw, trembling threat. I wanted to believe it wasn’t Kade. I needed to believe it wasn’t him. But the fact was, I didn’t know him. Not really. He had seen me when no one else did, but that didn’t mean he saw me in a good way. What if I had misread it all? What if I was just another target, another joke waiting to unravel? And Carter… his laugh earlier that day hadn’t left my head. Too loud. Too knowing. Too cruel.

And the last thing I saw was Scarface’s boot, mid-swing, coming for my skull. and I prayed it would be quick. But nothing ever was.
