Never Saw Me Coming Novels & Stories

╭───────────────╮ Unknown: I’ll see you at closing. Don’t make me come find you. ╰───────────────╯

In my third year as a blind massage therapist, Henry Young took his employees on a company retreat. By sheer coincidence, he ended up booking me. When he saw me, he remained perfectly composed, so much so that even his breathing did not falter. I served him the same way I treated every other client. Then his phone rang. My hands paused for a moment as my own voice, young and girlish, came through his phone speaker. His employees immediately started teasing him. Henry simply explained in a gentle voice, “My wife recorded that when she was young and didn’t know any better.” Just as he was leaving, Henry suddenly turned around. “Anya Walt, I’ve never forgotten you. “Are you really goi

Then hundreds. The ground trembled. They were close. Angry stomps from hidden crossroads, with evil intentions. “I’ll tell an enforcer to bri—“ “Something’s coming.” I leaped to my feet. My weak limbs almost threw me back to the floor. I ran to the tiny window. I saw nothing. But I could hear them. Sniff. I could smell them. The angry vibrations in their blood, and the cold breath from their heated growls. Enemies. “What’s coming?”

He had an inkling that Suzanne had come into contact with the black mist but he had no idea to what extent. It came to her. That’s why she was screaming. “No….” Jimmy back off now, shaking his shimmery face, “but I saw it. Weird thing was, it had no face.”

Because standing right in front of me… Was the one person I thought I’d never see again. My mouth fell open in complete shock. "What are you doing here?”

I reiterated and the anger that flashed across his eyes as he glared at me should have sent a shiver down my spine but it didn’t because it didn’t matter who he was, what mattered was who I had become- The one person he never saw coming.

I'd only ever seen him on the news. Just as I opened my mouth to speak, darkness enveloped my vision, and I pitched forward. When I woke up, I found myself in a hospital. I tried to get up, but dizziness washed over me. Zane sat by the bed and was scrolling through my chart. When he saw I was awake, he looked up and asked, "How do you feel?" I was about to answer when my phone rang with another call from Damon. I refused to answer, yanking out my SIM card and snapping it in half.

I never imagined falling in love. "I've never felt so seen," I say quietly. "By both of you. Brian looked at me for years and never saw who I actually was. My mother sees a disappointment. The world sees a nobody from nowhere who got lucky." I turn my head to look at Damon, then shift to look at Mike. "But you two see me. The real me, and you want her anyway." "We more than want her," Mike says softly. "We need her." "This is real," Damon says, and there's something almost like wonder in his voice. "Whatever this is, and I don't have a name for it, it's real. And it's ours."

“Which means you know exactly what this costs.” Another thought followed colder, sharper. And someone knows you’re worth watching. --- Amarah felt it before she saw it. The shift. The way the city seemed to hold its breath as she crossed the street, the way a familiar route suddenly felt unfamiliar. She stopped under a broken streetlight and checked her reflection in a darkened window. Nothing followed her. Which made it worse. Her phone vibrated secure channel. A single line of text appeared: You’re closer than you think.

I have learnt from Margaret never to complain and accept things as they are and good will come to me. I hope now my life will go on smoothly without any surprises.
