Dark of Night Copyright 2019 Emily Goodwin Chapter One “What do you see when you look at this one?” The doctor holds up a card, showcasing an ink splotch that’s twisted and creepy, with eyes that follow you no matter where you go. I look at it, heart hammering away inside my chest. The mess of ink on the white paper reminds me of the monster that lurks in Nana and Papa’s basement, the one that tried to get Abby and Scott to go downstairs with it.

His pitch-black eyes are looking at me as if he knows me. I reach up and stroke the horse gently on his muzzle until Alfred shouts loudly from behind me. "Watch out!" Alfred runs to my side and pulls me away from the fence. He puts his body between me and the horse. "This is Nightmare," Alfred explains. "He belongs to King Leonidas. He is not kind." Nightmare nips angrily at Alfred's shoulder. Alfred tries to push the horse away, but Nightmare bites down on his fingers. "Damn it," Alfred hisses, pulling his hand away from Nightmare. His hand is dripping blood onto the snow. He tries to hide it from me, but I pull his hand away from his chest.

It was a presence, an entity, a force that lived and breathed in the very air around him. Ben’s heart hammered in his chest, but his feet refused to move. He couldn’t tear his eyes away from the horror that unfolded before him. The laughing, twisted faces of his friends — his former friends — were all around him. They were no longer just shadows of memories. They had become something else entirely. Nadia stood before him, her once-beautiful face now a grotesque mockery of itself, her eyes glowing with an unholy light. She reached toward him, her bony fingers stretching like claws.

E. The Starlians have been at war with the Nightmares for Generations and are currently at a stalemate at Heavens Fall Realm. This realm has been ravaged by a 500 years war between the Nightmares and Starlians. The forces of Nightmares are described as beings covered with pitch black aura and have very good reflexes, smart and cunning. The Nightmares have learned to adapt and evolve throughout the centuries. This is the reason why the Starlians were pushed back from The Land of Demise all the way to Heavens Fall.

“For some, I guess I would. Sweetheart, this is not something I would want to bring you into, but I have no other choice.” “I get that. Always trying to protect me. However, this time I think I need to know so I can help you. Something is clearly bothering you.” She said as she looked into the golden pools of his eyes, and she almost forgot why he was there. She had to shake her head, and she knew she could not get distracted by his eyes and the wonders contained in them. “This is not something that is normal, either.” He stated as he looked at her. “A nightmare.”

-I'll fight my fears, Jay, I'll do it for you -I walked over and sat to the side across from him- I promise you my monsters won't defeat me. I realized that what he said was true, I had died in my sleep, one of my fears was to sleep and be trapped in one of my nightmares, not knowing what was real or not. This thing I was living was like a very bad nightmare. And there were monsters lurking: Death, damned souls, and God knows what else I'd be about to discover. Once upon a time a girl was trapped in a nightmare with many monsters to face, Once upon a time a girl was afraid of the dark, demons were about to cross over.

I was someone who suffered from nightmares, but paradoxically, the darkness here, was calming. I dragged my feet towards his bed and that’s when I saw the frame on his nightstand, next to a Bible. This man owned a Bible? My curiosity fully took over from this moment. I flipped it open. Maxine Jackson. I frowned a closed it. Who was she? My eyes slid back to the frame and I picked it up. It was a picture of a young woman, probably in her early thirties. She had thick black hair and blue eyes. Alexander’s eyes were a dark grey, but the resemblance was uncanny. This was his mother and that Bible perhaps, was hers.

They eventually die and a new Ma Vista is born. If the new Ma Vista is a boy he will start to have nightmares when he is 15. If it is a girl Ma Vista, the child will start having nightmares at the age of 16, some develop a bit later than that and their nightmares finishes in the middle of their 17th year.’
