Nora settled back against her pillow with a satisfied smile, and I folded my hands in my lap and waited. Kieran cleared his throat. He began reading in his normal voice, low and even, and for the first page or so, I thought maybe Nora had exaggerated. But then he got to the first line of dialogue, and without any preamble, a deep, rumbling voice came out of him that made me blink in surprise. “‘Well, little hedgehog,’” he read, “‘if you go out in that storm, I’ll tell your mother, and you won’t get any acorns for a week!’”

Noble pointed at it: "Not yet, I'll check later." Alina smiled, threw the book to him, and whispered, "Read it, the baby wants to hear it." Actually, she wanted to hear it. His voice was very easy to listen to, especially when he read a book; the words were clear, the voice was low, husky, and sexy. Every time he heard it, Alina's heart fluttered. Hannah stood, gesturing to the stool with a smirk, and Noah shot her a withering look before sitting in her place. A young boy immediately thrust a book into his hands, and Noah found himself the recipient of a dozen expectant stares. Steeling himself, Noah cleared his throat and opened the book, scanning the first few pages with a furrowed brow. When he began to read out loud, his voice was flat and monotone, utterly devoid of any of the animation or voices that Hannah had used.

I smiled as he nodded again, his brown hair bouncing around as he leaned in a little closer. I opened the book and started flipping through the pages, looking for a good story or myth to read to him. I paused for a moment at the title page that read ‘The All Mother and the Sacred Four’, tilting the book towards Calix. He smiled and scooted closer, nodding again as I turned the final page and cleared my throat.

He nodded his little head in response as he immediately did what I said. After making sure he won't be found, I went ahead to look around the shelves, picking up the books and glancing through the pages, the smell of books was just calming. I got teary all of a sudden, tears threatened to fall and I blinked rapidly, trying to push it back. I picked a book by Ben Okri, I wasn't sure I read it cause the title sounded strange. "The famished road," I read out loud A soft continuous knock on the door caught my attention, I raised my head up, looking away from the book to the door. I opened it to find my other two nephews.
