The smell of ozone replaced the scent of lilies.

The drone outside didn't crash; it disintegrated. A bolt of blue-white energy leapt from the chimney stack, arching through the sleet like a physical lash. The mechanical buzzing stopped instantly, replaced by the sound of a heavy weight hitting the snow-covered porch.
Silence returned, but it was broken by the heavy, rhythmic thud of boots on the stairs.
"They're on the porch," Enzo said, his voice deadly calm. He stood up, reloading his magazine in the dark. "Jade, get behind the bar. Bianca, if you have a weapon in that coat, now would be the time to use it."
