I stood until my legs ached and the chill of the air seeped into my bones. If my mom had sacrificed everything for me, then whatever she had left behind mattered. I felt like my head was going to explode, like it was a balloon being inflated to the bursting point. The pain was intense, a piercing, stabbing sensation that made my eyes water. I tried to breathe, but it felt like my airways were constricting, like I was suffocating under the weight of my own skull. I stumbled, my vision blurring, and my legs gave out beneath me.

Florence, however, found these conversations uninteresting and struggled to pay attention. Startled by the sudden surge of loud music from the stage, Florence dropped her fork in pain. Her right ear was particularly sensitive to such sounds, a condition that her doctor had previously warned her about. An orchestra provided live music for the affluent attendees of the ballroom, but Florence found the noise overwhelming. I closed my eyes and dropped my whole body to the ground, coiling and clutching my stomach as I tried to breathe through my nose. With everything burning in my body, breathing through my nose became impossible unless I tried my hardest. But it did help. The burn on my face was slowly subsiding, but the rest of my body was not.

With a prayer that I was doing this right, I smashed my thumbs against the bumpy part right in the middle. With a shriek that hurt my own ears and a quick sickly roll of my tummy, I could finally breathe through my nose. Searching through my pack of stuff, I saw a disposable ice pack. Breaking the interior thingamabob that made it cold, I shook it. Once it was freezing my fingers off, I placed it against my face. My eyes fluttered shut on a sigh as the cold washed over my inflamed tissues. That was heaven. I leaned forward just in case my nose wanted to start bleeding again. Having that shit slide down my throat was disgusting and not something else I wanted to deal with right now.

My throat felt like the Sahara Desert as I felt my toes twitch. The enhanced sound of a constant beeping was almost deafening to my ears, and my nose twitched under the strong smell of hand sanitiser and bleach. My eyes felt glued shut as I tried to open them, and I noticed it felt like days since I've used any of my senses.

Riven’s POV They stung like hell. My eyes were currently burning from the harsh blast of antiseptic spray, but that pain didn't compare to the agony in my eardrums. My fucking ears kept ringing, and I had Eve to thank for that. She was screaming at the top of her lungs, and the sound was entirely deafening.

I jerk the steering wheel to the left and hit the brakes simultaneously. The screeching sound of tires can even be heard in my ears until I hear them burst from the pressure and friction on the asphalt. My car flips. I feel my body spinning. My head hits quite hard. I feel the spin come to an end. The throbbing in my head becomes more painful. My ears are ringing. My car lands somewhere. The road is above my head. The seatbelt restraining me doesn't really hold my body weight. The airbag in front of me only makes it difficult for me to breathe. I struggle to move.
