I know Mom loves me and the last thing she wants for her daughter is be sent to the wilderness. I just sigh my thoughts away and prepare for SCHOOL. I fix my bed, take a bath, and wear my disguise. I am chuckling like an idiot in the mirror as I fix my cute red tie. A hundred and twenty one years old, in high school, as a nerd - I think nothing funny can't ever happen to my life again. I put on my fake silver braces and look at my favorite flower-shaped table clock. "7:14" the clock says. Having werewolf speed is helpful in this kind of rush. For one, the size of the town and its population made Santa Monica looked like a minuscule village unworthy of a supermarket or school of its own, and almost everyone who lived there acted like they were from a city, when they were not. We also had a high school football rivalry, so that could play in, especially since I was head cheerleader and may or may not have gotten into a catfight with Percival’s head cheerleader in senior year. Here and now, he looks so welcoming. I catch myself staring at him, the way his hair falls over his forehead, I keep comparing him to Zeta without meaning to.

I close my eyes tightly and try to drown out the voices of the void. Suddenly the sounds of the void are quiet and I am surrounded by the familiar chatter of students. My eyes fly open and I look around and find myself outside of the high school in Lycan City. I see Kayla’s bouncing blonde hair running toward the front door of the school. That’s when I see myself. Standing in my best dress outside of the high school with a worried look on my face. Slowly I approach myself. I know what day this is. It is the first day of school after I didn’t shift in front of the entire pack.

He smirked, his voice was strong, bearing an uncanny resemblance to that of the teenager who made my high school years a living hell until he left. My mind flashed back to the teenage boy who dropped a lizard on my desk just to get my reaction, framed me several times for doing things I never did so that I could be in detention with him. He was the same person that gave me a lingering and unforgettable kiss at the only night party that I'd ever attended. "High school? D-Dexter.... Dexter Hemmingway?" We were suddenly in the middle of a vibrant scene at the orphanage where Percy had lived, surrounded by a group of children laughing and playing. Here, Percy was a caretaker, a protector, immersed in a moment that brought him genuine joy and fulfillment instead of pain. This swift change in the dreamscape was Dane's way of recalibrating Percy's subconscious, steering him away from the trauma.

i try to clean my hands in a tainted cloth so i can hug them. "School sucks!", Percy bursts out, almost in tears. He runs up straight to his room. It is not yet completed, but has the basic for survival- a bed, a desk and a closet. I follow him with my eyes and then before i have time to say anything more to anyone, they all scatter around the house, talking to themselves, throwing and kicking stuff around. I suppose they had the same day as i did.
