The boat pushed off smoothly, gliding through the water with a gentle rocking motion.
Venice unfolded around them like something out of a painting. Ancient buildings rose on either side in shades of cream, burnt orange, and faded terracotta. Windows with ornate frames stood open, catching the golden light. Laundry fluttered between buildings like colorful prayer flags. The water reflected everything in a shimmering, dreamlike mirror.
“God, it’s so beautiful,” Andrea breathed.
Henry didn’t answer right away. He simply held her tighter, his chin resting on top of her head. The gondolier began to sing — a low, timeless Italian melody that echoed softly off the stone walls.
