Her eyes darted everywhere, and William could smell her fear; wafting from her in waves. That amount of fear would be like an invitation to the wolves if they shifted fully. Brock would have to be briefed; he could deploy a team to delve into that mystery. Yadiel's gaze on me was unsettling, his mind a cesspool of repugnant thoughts. Mastering this power challenged me; I could intercept every shifter's inner voice, though, thankfully, humans remained silent to me. As she took a step forward, ready to fight, inducers were fired into her body to make her sleep. She turned her eyes toward her gang, trying to fight the sleep. Anger rose as she was about to lose control. Then another inducer pierced her body. She fell. Before she hit the ground, they pushed a floater toward her. Silence followed as her eyes closed, breaths controlled, bodies shaking with fear. Someone whispered, “She’s a psychopath. Don’t you know her nickname?” Another followed, “She’s called The Psycho Queen.” “Damn! Who’s gonna carry her now? Absolutely not me,” a bald man said. “That girl terrifies me. I can’t get over when she flipped me over. Even unconscious, she’s scary.”

“I hate every one of you. “I never want to see any of you again.” Then the light swallowed me. And I disappeared from the shifter world for good. --- Three years had passed since I returned to my own world. At first, I still woke from nightmares, trapped again in that other life. But work grew busier. Time moved on. Slowly, the memories faded. The shifters’ faces blurred until they no longer seemed real. Sometimes, I wondered whether it had all been nothing more than a nightmare.
