I take a moment to catch my breath, placing my hands on my knees and doubling over, before I can speak. “Oh my god,” Atwood says as he notices my injury. “Your shoulder. You’re bleeding. What happened?” I straighten, still out of breath, and attempt to explain the situation. “Th-There was a Bear,” I say breathlessly. “In the woods.” “A Bear?!” Atwood says, his eyes wide. I nod vehemently. “He’s dead,” I say. “I killed him. But there might be more.” Atwood’s eyes widen even further, but he doesn’t immediately comment on my news about killing the Bear.

Between one breath and the next, a gigantic brown bear stood in his place. "I'm going to die. This is it. This is what twenty-two years on this planet has gotten me. Hallucinations and being eaten by a huge ass bear." The bear chuffled. He snorted at me. Looking directly at my animal legs, he looked back up at me. Back to my legs. Back to my face.

He laughed again. Freely. — For the first time since the chaos began— The tension around him eased. As if— Lucien's presence alone— Had erased all doubt. Then— Clang! A sharp metallic sound cut through the air. Everyone turned. The metal bat slipped from Death Bear's hand. Falling to the floor. Their eyes widened. He stops by my oversized bear and frowns at him. “You won me him in Las Vegas. He’s called Joey.” I remind him, following his death glare with amusement. “You’ve been sharing your bed with this fella?” he asks seriously. I can’t see any humor in his eye but he’s obviously not being serious. “I have.” I smile demurely and wink at Joey for added effect. He picks the bear up by the throat rather aggressively.

He picked Beth up single-handedly and served her a few slaps. "My greatest regret is fooling with you, you fucking whore. If I hadn't done so, my dear Amber wouldn't have died. It was you. You pushed her to her death. I am going to exile you!" Beth struggled with all her might and begged to be spared. She even looked toward the werewolves around her with a pleading gaze. Scenario B: A random stranger buys the bear meant for Jules's brother and uploads the recording to the internet as a "weird thrift find," and it goes viral. Scenario C: I simply die of embarrassment right here on this rug.

Sleep did not come clean. In the dream I was back on the studio couch with the lights already too bright, and the host was smiling, and the box was in my lap again. This time when I opened it the bear sat up. Fake blood ran over my hands and would not come off no matter how hard I wiped them on my trousers. The audience did not scream. They leaned forward.
