Riley’s POV The next second, smirk dropped from Ezra’s face. I instantly knew he was done playing around. “Get them,” he ordered his teammates. “Run!” I snapped. Silas and Odin didn’t need telling twice. We turned and shot down the slope just as dark figures broke away from the ridge above us. Huge Lycan wolves. All five of them. For a second, all I could hear was the pounding of wolf paws and the rush of wind in my ears. Then I risked a glance back and my stomach tightened.

"You see that darkness just on the edge of the sun? That’s called a solar eclipse, and when it happens, it’s all over if we don’t reach Ayla." Nodding, I begin to move, climbing into the back of the car where Silas and Isabella sit waiting. Once I’m in place, I look at Benny, who is eyeing us. "What?" I ask, raising a brow. "Get in." "There’s no room," he counters. "Sure there is," I smirk, patting my lap. "Come on." I can’t stop the laugh that escapes as Benny’s eyes widen and a look of utter terror crosses his face.

There was a moment of silence. "Are the press there? Have they taken a photo or a video of her?" He asked. "I would suspect yes," I replied. "I will be flying to Montana now. Please expect me at the Moonlight Palace around midnight," he said and hung up. The High Elder will be flying here to meet Kiaria. I was speechless. The High Elder only did this one other time...when he went to see Magnus or so I've heard. "Eveything alright? You look like you've seen a ghost," Kiaria said. I blinked, shook my head and smiled at her.

Streams of blood poured scarlet stains in my hands –– the rust stench as the dagger squelched deeper hung in the air. My father clutched my wrist, his hand shuddering, cold and pale. He bared his teeth in torment, breath labored, as blood trickled down the sides of his mouth. “Run back to the palace, my boy. Tell your mother and sister to hide; the border has been seized.” That night, he embraced death with open arms, which was the same night the moon was shrouded in darkness. I had known the premonition of the eclipse: the curse and the bad omen it represented. Perhaps my father had surrendered to it.

Liz said with a bright smile as her gaze darted between us. I blushed and sought cover closer to Ryder, pressing myself against him as I hid behind him slightly. "You called us?" Ryder asked, firm and to the point. David cleared his throat and took off the glasses he had been wearing to see the computer screen before he addressed us. "There's a lunar eclipse coming up," he announced. "And?" Ryder went on, seemingly uncertain as to the relevance of this news. "And it's an important celebration for our pack. I want to be sure that you know that you're expected to attend... both of you..." he went on, shifting his sharp gaze between us both.

“Is Jade alright? Please tell me he’s okay.” Alice hesitated, then sighed. “He’s still unconscious. They’re keeping him under, drugged… it’s for his own good, Aurora. His system is too weak to handle waking up right now.” My chest tightened, but I forced myself to stay steady. “We can’t wait any longer. Do you hear me? The eclipse is coming fast, and if we don’t get to Riley before it peaks, we risk losing him forever.”

He sets it on the desk in front of me. "The Eclipse line is not extinct, as many believe. But it is rare. So rare that most wolves thought it had died out generations ago." He opens the journal to a page marked with a black ribbon. "Eclipse wolves are born during a lunar eclipse. A moon that should never mark a wolf. But when it does, the power it grants is extraordinary." I look down at the page. There's a drawing of a crescent moon partially swallowed by shadow. Just like my mark.

Third Person Point of View Riley was finally at home. She had no idea if it was because Eash and Ezra actually got scared after her threat to disappear from their lives or what, but they let her go.
