The Traitor's Daughter
The next morning, the training was different.
Lorenzo brought out pads and had me practice stepping in and out of range, dancing with the rhythm of combat rather than charging into it.
He corrected my form gently, sometimes just guiding me with a touch on my back or shoulder. No bruises, no pain, just repetition and reinforcement.
When I got frustrated, he cracked jokes. When I slipped up, he smiled and reset the drill.
And when I finally landed a perfect combination, step, pivot, elbow strike, dodge, and he actually grinned.
