When she finished mixing everything with mayonnaise, she sprinkled lemon on it and smiled. "Done!" She said, taking out the dishes. She settled them on the dinning table and both Monique and Dahlia joined her. "Are you sure this is salad?" Monique asked as she looked at the plates. " Then is it poop?" November rolled eyes. "Calm down" Monique rolled eyes too and picked a fork, Dahlia did the same.

Ada said with a smirk, tapping on another persons Instagram story. "Guy I'm depending on you oh, this thing isn't entering my head." Shalom cut in with a groan, referring to Ada. "Your boyfriend is not coming to school?" Ada asked with a smirk, ignoring Shalom's words. Janet perked up at them rolling her eyes, of course she told her two best friends about Saturday.

"The chicken salad I made, I just tasted it now, and realized there's too much salt and pepper, and I don't remember putting salt in it, I think someone might have added salt."

I asked, chuckling and then she shrugged answering, "why not?" After a moment, Kayle and Chandler arrived with a big bowl of nachos and four cans of soda. "So what's on the big screen?" Chandler asked, placing the bowl of nachos on the table in front of us. "Sex Ed Season 2." Kayle answered, looking at the TV and nodding at the same time. She has successfully placed the cans of soda beside the bowl of nachos as well. "Oh, exciting!" Chandler exclaimed while sitting on the other side of Jess while Kayle sat beside me.

I get to buy whatever ingredients I want and experiment with different recipes. I nod, trying to keep my attention on the vegetables. I'm sure a fingertip in the salad would be unwelcome. Besides, I don't want to talk about Romina or what I know about her. Knowing Aliyah works for her is still unsettling. Aliyah quickly finishes the salad dressing as well as a pale-yellow sauce for the salmon. She walks over to me and picks up a knife. "That apron fits you nicely," she says, "but it appears that you could use a little assistance."

A huge cast-iron skillet hung by the stove, and the scent of fresh basil and earth filled the air. I rolled up my sleeves and got to work, humming as I chopped vegetables and shredded the roasted chicken Evelyn had cooked the night before. Madelin joined me at the counter, helping me mix everything together for the salad — tender chicken, green onions, grapes, celery, and a hint of Dijon mustard. She worked quietly, but every now and then I caught her smiling, her cheeks tinged pink. “You seem happy,” I said softly. She glanced at me, smiling wider. “I am. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this kind of peace.”

Sage’s POV “The salad is ready!” Kehlani yells out for everyone to gather for dinner. I stand next to her, placing the flowers I picked with Corbin a day ago. The red petals cut through the lush green of the salad and looks pretty in contrast with the almonds and feta cheese that’s also in it.

"It's good." "Damn straight. I'm the only one in the family allowed to make it." "It has a nice crunch." "Secret ingredient." He smiles staring down at the bowl. "Celery?" I guess. The little green slices easy to spot. "Well now you've taken the fun out of it." I reach for the spoon still hanging from his fingers in the air between us. "I could go for another bite." He tosses the spoon in the sink with a disgusted look. "Oh no. You've tasted the salad. It's time for the second course."
