“I expect good news, and I do not want to hear any of the shit that I’ve been hearing for the past few days.” My second Beta, Marcellus, shook his head once. “Amelia hasn’t answered. If she’s covering for her, then Selene is already compromised. Whatever influence you expected her to have, it’s fading fast.” A glass slammed down on the table beside me, scotch sloshing over the rim. “Damn her. How is it fucking possible that Liam, the man who doesn’t even realize what is going on around him, does not see the traitors that are within, is fucking winning everything that goes around with or without him being oblivious?”

“If we want to understand why we’re here, we need to face whatever’s in these photos. What happened in that hospital?” Emma hesitated, her lip trembling. Finally, she exhaled and spoke in a voice barely above a whisper. “It was my sister. She was sick—terminal cancer. I was supposed to be there for her, but…” She swallowed hard. “I missed her final moments. I wasn’t there when she needed me most.” The room was silent except for the faint crackle of the fire. Elliot nodded slowly and turned to the next photograph—Sam’s. It showed him standing outside a courthouse, his head turned slightly away as if avoiding the camera.

I rested my forehead on his chest as he tightened his grip around the sheets either side of my head before pulling out of me, laying his head on the crook of my neck for a second before pulling away. I covered myself with the messy, rolled up sheets as he rolled onto his back, breath heavy, eyes fixed on the ceiling like he’d conquered something worth remembering. Elijah always carried himself that way, like a king without a crown, too sure of his power to need one. The scent of smoke and cologne clung to his skin, faint traces of arrogance laced with victory. A victory that he has yet to obtain. He turned his head toward me, his lips curving into that sharp, lazy smirk.

They stood in front of the mirror and Amanda kept asking questions about her mate. "You make a killer demon, Ellie," Meredith said with a smile as she surveyed the final product. Sam had fixed her hair into a wild mane that flew in every direction but somehow still managed to look put together. Ellie smiled in the mirror, she had seen this image before when she had been looking into the future. She did look wild, like the demon they had seen on the road. "Too bad our house is filled with businessmen," Sam said with a scowl. "I mean, don't get me wrong. I like that we get to work for the Ackley's, especially since they're my alpha, but working in business sounds dull."

the announce. Squealing, Alexa does a few paces across the room before she stayed quiet, go back to kneeling in front of the television like it was a God send. All I can think to do is stay stock still and hope that maybe, maybe this was all some prank...Anything but being chosen for this thing. "Our first nominee...Macie North!" Both his eyebrows rose and I could tell if this was a real job interview, I wouldn't be getting a call back. He's forehead was wrinkled and his stupidly handsome face was void of any emotion. He looked intimidating. "And it's Sam Elliott."

Sam whispers into the phone. I want to smack her through the phone. Of course, we aren't cool. If we were okay, she'd love me back, and Mr. Darcy wouldn't be an option for her. "Sure, Sam. We're cool. Sorry I made an ass of myself last night. I was a little drunk. I hope I didn't say anything too embarrassing." Sam breaths into the phone with a sigh of relief. "So you're not in love with me?" I don't respond right away. But, whatever I say now will make Sam question the rest of her life with Mr. Darcy.

"Are all these photo's yours?" "Yup, only mine. What do you think?" Sam asked Morgan now to the side assessing a few landscapes. Sam glanced at Elliott and shrugged. "Oh, Morgan, this is Elliott, my husband. Honey, my sister, Morgan."

I point at Cassandra, “then threw me into the woods to die. Now you want me back because I returned with power?” Damon’s golden eyes looked pained. He spoke loud enough for everyone to hear. “I was wrong. Cassandra lied to me. She fed me stories about threats to the pack. I let pride and fear control me. I take back the rejection. Annie is not an Omega. She is my true mate.” Gasps spread through the crowd. Scarlett smiled through tears. Cassandra looked ready to kill. I turned to Kael. “You found me when I was broken. You gave me safety and pups. But you left me alone in that cave. You marked me without asking.”
