The baton connected with the back of my neck, hard and final. Pain exploded through me, fast and blinding. My body gave in instantly, strength draining out like it was never mine to begin with. My knees buckled. The wall slipped away. Voices turned distant. Blurred. And just like that... Darkness took over.

Through the haze, I saw Lucian dive in without a second thought, swimming fast toward me. Thorne followed, diving in and heading straight for me, ignoring Isolde's cries for help. Griffin stood on the shore, yelling with worry, "Thorne, you can't swim! Are you trying to get yourself killed?!" I felt a jolt of shock. ...Thorne could not swim? I tried hard to open my eyes, which were already blurry, and looked over to see Thorne flailing in the water. He really could not swim at all and was quickly sinking.

So I knew that they were in there. I mind linked my warriors to bring the men of the town to the mine shaft. As soon as they arrived I looked at the mine shaft and then at the human men. “Start digging.” I said. “We will never get through there before night time.” One of them said. “Yes you will. Otherwise one of you might have a really bad accident in the night time. And there won’t be any witnesses because I don’t see any street lights or any kind of lighting out here.” I said.

The Shade were like gigantic spiders with extremely thick skin and had claws protruding from a joint in all eight of their legs that surrounded the top of every hoof. They had huge, spiked mandibles that were forever clicking away, and eyes that were tiny slits. Compared to them both, I was useless. I was only five; my tiny teeth and weak claws could not defend myself against something that was near eight feet tall, so I stayed on the outskirts of the Unit with Tin before returning to the safety of our burrow every night.

Closing her eyes, the energy around her circled her until she drifted off to sleep. “Abey, Abey, open your eyes.” Whispers filled her ears. Opening her eyes, she realizes she wasn’t in the shop, but somewhere else. Standing up, she remembered this place but didn’t know it. Looking around, a man walked closer to her. He wore a dark hood, but she could see his face. More of them appeared, this time the hoods covered their faces. “Abey, welcome.” he said motioning his arms around her surroundings, “I am Dremis, keeper of this world. Usually.” his laughter danced through the air.
