I reach out, and as a shadow finger presses against the shadow of the nearest crow, it moves, as if affected. “I can see it,” I gasp, grabbing Arthur’s hand. The vision intensifies, their true forms becoming crisper, and cleaner within their projected shadows. I try to reach out again with my shadow form, but the crow’s shadow moves again, blinking away from me just as I am about to grasp it.

The group and I arrived at the endless expanse of the Green Hills, Shadow looked up to see the skies showing a fleshy-like hue, Shadow turned to see Maria “Shadow, someone is coming and he’s fast” she said. I turned to see a blue hedgehog running towards us but his eyes were flesh-like, telltale signs of Corona’s brainwashing. “Sonic the Hedgehog” I said, Sonic cracked his knuckles “I knew Corona that you would be trouble” said Sonic pointing his finger at me. “Corona doesn’t know that this is my sanctuary, hence she usurped my creational throne” I said. Then Sonic ran “then we fight Inkcanius” said Sonic. “Inkcanius I will back you up, this is how we fought against each other” said Shadow.

“That fire won’t take it down before it reaches the wall.” Eolan’s shadow stirred at his feet, sensing the urgency. “Then I’ll take care of it.” Before anyone could stop him, he vaulted down the inner stairs, boots crunching into the snow-covered killing ground between the gatehouse and the inner wall. The enemy saw him—shouts rang out, arrows loosed from the tower’s upper platform. He called the shadow up like a living shield, arrows vanishing into its shifting darkness. He sprinted toward the base of the siege tower, shadow tendrils latching onto the axles, the supports, even the frozen ground beneath. With a wrenching pull, the shadow tore the forward wheel assembly free.

And then again. Until – Crow gave up trying to punch Shadow and grabbed her instead. His arms came around her waist, trapping her arms to her chest. Anyone might struggle in that moment, but Shadow didn’t. It was as if she knew just what to do. It was like she had practiced. She dropped her weight suddenly, slipping down unexpectedly through Crow’s grasp. When her elbow was free, she jabbed it back into the base of his ribcage as hard as he could. Crow gasped and let her go, and Shadow spun away, adding some distance between them.

His claws tore through shadows, energy flaring. I reached out instinctively, feeling his power, matching him with mine. Light and shadow intertwined, creating a protective aura around us. Amendus staggered backward, unprepared for our unity. “Now, Nyra!” Creed shouted, golden eyes blazing. “Together!” I let myself trust him completely. My hands flared, his energy pulsing through me, our combined power crashing into Amendus like a storm. He roared, stumbling, the shadows around him twisting violently before dissipating in a blinding explosion.

Malachi, eyes scanning the horizon, suddenly pointed, "There, in the distance! A shadow, out of place amidst this luminescence." The guardians followed his gaze, and indeed, a dark form seemed to be approaching, its energy clashing with the radiant vibes of the grove. Isolde, her instincts kicking in, said, "We need to intercept, and understand its intentions." Liora, holding out her hand, produced a gentle orb of light. "Let's use this to guide the shadow, lure it closer." The shadow, drawn to Liora's orb, began to take a more defined shape as it neared — a cloaked figure, its face hidden, emanating an aura of chaos and disruption.

Stripping off my clothes, I left them and my bag under a redwood tree, then I let Rose take over. "Let's run to our heart's content! Then we'll take a bath in the river," I said to her. Under the luminous gaze of the full moon, I felt an irresistible force surging through my being. My heart quickened with anticipation. Closing my eyes, I focused on the power within, embracing the ancient magic that coursed through my veins. It began with a tingling sensation, like a thousand tiny needles tracing patterns across my skin. My bones shifted, and a rush of euphoria washed over me as my human form started to contort.

It popped free of its socket and I dropped it into the open bag at my feet. I squinted, the eye scorching light from the other bulbs making the pools of shadow beside us difficult to see. Host-less Shades stayed hidden during the lighter hours, even beneath their violet sky, but that didn't mean you wouldn't come across the occasional desperado, willing to risk everything for a shot at owning human flesh. I dropped the piece of clothing that protected the new bulb into the bag and paused, frozen by the shiver running down my spine. "What's wrong?" Aaron called from the front.

I shut my eyes, crossed my arms over my face and dove straight into the dense shadow barrier. The shadows hissed, but then, just as I’d expected, they split open, letting me through.

At 5'10", her presence commanded attention, but she preferred to stay unnoticed. Her dark skin glowed under the morning sun, and her eyes, a striking shade of amber, held secrets untold. She pulled her hood tighter, hoping to shield herself from the prying eyes she could already feel on her. She sighed, remembering the last town, the last school, the last narrow escape. The coven was always a step behind her, their sinister intentions cloaked in shadow but ever-present. She couldn’t afford to grow attached, couldn’t afford to make friends or enemies. But she knew this routine all too well. Blend in, keep your head down, and move on before anyone gets too close.
