My Pretty Husband

My Pretty Husband

Wealth abruptly abandoned me, stripping away the comforts I once knew. My friends I thought I had vanished when poverty struck, revealing their superficiality. Yet, I'm gratefully indebted to my late mother, whose wisdom taught me resilience and self-sufficiency, qualities that now anchor my existence. Splash! Out of nowhere, someone kicks the bucket of soapy water right in front of me, sending its entire contents spilling and spreading rapidly across the freshly cleaned floor.

Two Kings for Ellie

Two Kings for Ellie

All I could do was gape at the old woman with a wide eye, “Was three gold bars worth this risky task?” “You have no idea the outgoing amount of soldiers that are begging for alms and feeding from hand to mouth in this park, the human world as well. She had a full grin the moment I dangled the gold bars in her face; she agreed on the second task before even knowing what it entailed.” She ends her statement with a shrug. I indeed couldn't relate to what she said because I and my sister never had a chance to taste the bitterness of poverty. A few months after our wealthy parents died, Murray took over parenting. And we ate a quarter of the food stolen directly from the Alpha's kitchen. “So you

Ruin Me, Brother

Ruin Me, Brother

She was useless to me now, so why should I keep pretending? I pulled out my phone and scrolled through my photos until I found the one I was looking for. “Chiara,” I whispered, pressing my lips against the screen. “Soon, my love. Soon I’ll be worthy of you.” FLASHBACK Poverty has a smell. Damp walls. Stale alcohol. Rotting hope. It stuck to my skin when I was a kid, no matter how hard I scrubbed. It followed me everywhere—into my dreams, into every hungry night, into every breath I took in that broken house.

Heard It, But Too Late

Heard It, But Too Late

What seemed plenty to others felt like poverty to her. She turned to gambling, hoping to turn things around. Instead, she lost everything and fell into massive debt. To escape creditors, she fled to a remote mountain village. Five years later, the police found her locked in a cellar, tortured beyond recognition. Her mind was shattered. Ralph vanished. No one knew if he was alive or dead. Three years later, when someone spotted him on a construction site, he was dark, emaciated, and crippled after falling from scaffolding because of hunger. Perhaps he thought it was atonement. To me, it was only childish and laughable.

The Billionaire's Love Game

The Billionaire's Love Game

“This whole thing. This isn’t a world that I’m familiar with and it honestly makes me uneasy. I’m just a sociology teacher who grew up in a poor family and hope to one day have a wife, a few kids and a mortgage I can’t afford.” “What’s stopping you? If this life isn’t for you no one is going to force a Lionshead tattoo on your hand and make you work for us. You and my sister can be happy making it on your own or accept help from the family and live a life most people dream of, but never achieve. It doesn’t matter to us which way it goes down, money isn’t an issue.” It was wild to think that with so much poverty and homelessness there were people like the man sitting across from me who had so

Bringing My Arrogant CEO To His Knees

Bringing My Arrogant CEO To His Knees

They had lived under our roof, eaten our food, taken our money, and the second things got difficult, they vanished. Now, I'm left here alone, stuck in this cramped little apartment I had once used as a hideout, a place for fun. Never in my worst nightmares did I think I would actually live here. It felt like a prison compared to Dad’s mansion. No marble floors, no grand staircases, no staff catering to my every need. Just me. And the worst part? I had to do my own laundry. My own dishes. Can you beat that? I had been surviving on canned meals and cheap takeout, but now my money is running out and that is my biggest fear. Fear of being broke, of not being able to afford everything I want. I c

Dirty Stepbrother

Dirty Stepbrother

Put it down again. My mind went somewhere I didn't ask it to go. Back to when I was twelve, sitting at our old kitchen table while my dad counted coins out of a jar, lining them up in little towers like that would make them add up to more than they were. "Dad," I'd asked him once. "Are we poor?" He'd laughed, but it wasn't really a laugh. "We're tight, Jae. Not poor. Poverty is a state of mind. Tight is just a state of the bank account. There's a difference."

MEANT TO BE

MEANT TO BE

He said and i breathe in. "You don't do jokes?...then i do jokes,i don't want fifty thousand dollars, you should know that's too huge for five days Mr Braun" I said and he smirked. "Well...it's nothing to me though" He said and i smiled. "Wow..It's nothing to you...you must have worked so hard to be in this position or is it privilege? But do you know how people are starving on the streets?..do you know how just a dollar means to some people,do you even know how parents abandon their kids in the hospital just because they can't afford the bill and Mr Braun who seems to have the money to feed a whole nation...instead on squandering it,why don't you just help the helpless" I said and he stared

One Night Stand With The Billionaire Boss

One Night Stand With The Billionaire Boss

I’ve tried to wow her with money, it’s true. For the first time I understand what Saxon’s been through with Catie, who had even less money than Alice. She was homeless for a while and was malnourished because she couldn’t afford a decent diet. I’ve watched Saxon tease her with food, coaxing her as if she’s a child, and been puzzled by it. I was baffled by her reticence and her refusal to accept his help even though he’d gotten her pregnant, and I still am. Why are poor people so proud? Poverty isn’t a character flaw any more than having wealth is proof of a powerful personality, unless you’re in a mafia movie. I don’t get it, and it makes me angry that I’m sitting here in this huge house wit

Her Four Possessive Wolves

Her Four Possessive Wolves

One filled with pride. “He is also the reason these people are suffering. Look around you! Poverty is running rampant within this pack! People don’t have food. The housing problem is at an all time high. You work unreasonable hours for little pay. This is not life!” I screamed above the masses again. The murmurs grew into full conversations. Heads turned towards each other.

Great story & characters, & absolutely loved the style of writing - broken/fragmented sentences that drive action & thoughts, so unique! Wish I wasn't left asking about some open-ended plotlines (Desert Sun, king's heirs, Felix, Albert & Mariposa, etc.), but assuming sequel books will address them?
