“I’m okay, sis.” I tried to smile, but the stretch only made the sting in my cheeks flare. She then pressed her lips together, shoulders shuddering, as if my words alone had hurt her.
“Idiot, how can you be okay? Your mouth’s bleeding.”
“Haaah, these siblings are starting to get on my nerves.” The rogue’s shadow fell over us, and I froze, meeting his glare.
I was ready to apologize, to say anything just to ease his frustration, but he didn’t wait. In one motion, he snatched my sister up and slung her over his shoulder, as if she weighed nothing.
