My mother gasped softly beside me, covering her mouth. Then she broke into tears, rushing to hug Gabriel like she’d been waiting for this moment her whole life.
“Anak ko!” she cried, her voice trembling. “You’re home, finally!”
Gabriel hugged her back tightly. “Hi, Ma.” His smile faltered a little as he glanced at our father.
Antonio didn’t move. Didn’t blink. Just stared at them, his jaw ticking.
Then, sharply: “Lahat ng tao, umalis.”
